I stopped there as i wanted to say good bye to a friend who was leaving the next morning. First i arrived and the receptionist told me the price for the nigth in colones with a rate of 560 colones for a dollar. I told him that the rate was wrong and i showed him the rate of the bank... More

Stayed here on 2 different occasions, has a great location, not in San Jose itself, great location if you need to get to the airport for an early flight. Hostel has a homely feel & thankfully is not a party hostel, use of kitchen was great & breakfast was fine, would stay again.

Maleku Hostel is not a typical hostel, in that it's more of a small house converted into one. The feeling is cozy and chill. There's a small living room to sit back, watch tv, and/or peruse their collection of Costa Rica guidebooks. It's on the outskirts of the city center, next to the hospital, with nothing much around it except... More

Great hostel if you plan on flying out the next day! They won't pick you up from the airport but taxis only cost around 2000 colones!! That's around $4, its not a party hostel and within walking distance to a few sodas so its nice, although I would reccomend getting out of the larger cities as soon as you can

Very friendly staff who made my overnight totally enjoyable. Rooms were sufficient for sleeping and the free shuttle service to the airport was awesome! Comfortable accommodation if you need a night in Alajuela before a flight.

A no frills hostel but does the basics very well. First off great location, 5 minute taxi from the airport and close to a mall if you have time to kill before a flight. Fresh sheets and decent bunks gives you a decent nights sleep if you have an early flight. The breakfast is basic but there are some biscuits... More

I made a reservation two weeks before my flight. I recommend you make a reservation, they were full the night that I stayed. Clean and convenient. They provide breakfast (coffee, juice, and food, but I only had coffee and juice) and transportation to the airport. I had a private room that I used for my San Jose overnight for my... More

We stayed at Maleku Hostel overnight the first night we arrived in Costa Rica & the last night before we left the country. Location is perfect. Literally 5 minutes from the airport. We arrived late and were happy to be so close to our accommodations. Also very close to a grocery store and some fast food joints. The rooms are... More

I've stayed her twice just to grab some sleep before a flight the next morning, and this place is pretty much fine for just that. It's cheap and has a free shuttle to the airport (don't be lured by "breakfast," its coffee/bananas/crackers which is great, but not breakfast for me). The big Mas por Menos supermarket 1 block away has... More

Somehow this is lonely planets top pick in town? So many tourists are now deciding to stay in alajuela (near the airport) instead of at San Jose, that there is simply not enough accommodation in town. I spent 90 minutes walking around town one morning looking for a budget private room but every single one was booked so I ended... More
