If you come to Costa Rica and want an inexpensive place to acclimate, I highly recommend Maleku Hostel. It is 5 min. from the airport, very clean, comfortable, and the staff is very, very friendly and helpful (many of them speak English). The kitchen has everything you need for self catering and there is a grocery store nearby. It is near... more

This is nice hostel really close to the airport (5 minutes) with a free shuttle. They also offer fruit, coffee and cookies in the morning which was a nice touch. The location is great for getting to the airport but not great for walking around at night if you get in later (the KFC and McDonalds were the closest restaurant... more

This is a great place to stay if, like me, you have an early flight out of San Jose, CR. It's really close to the airport and they offer a free shuttle. I cannot say enough about their staff; they are really helpful and friendly. We were staying on two non-consecutive nights, with a rafting trip in between, and they... more

This was an excellent place to stay. It was extremely clean and safe. It was also fairly easy to get to by bus, even, so I didn't have to pay for a taxi from the airport to get there. I would definitely stay there again. more

We are normally hotel people- not hostellers! But we stayed in a B&B in Alajuela that we weren't that impressed with and needed somewhere for our last night. A fellow traveller recommended Maleku, and we thought why not. We only had one night in Alajuela before our flight out the next morning, so we had to explore fast, but it... more

I stayed at Maleku while staying in Costa Rica and had a great time. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the airport service was very convinient. The hostel was clean and attractive, and the beds and pillows are top notch!! Normally you get crappy lumpy pillows, but not here. Plus, when I went to the pacific beachs the bus... more

The overall experience at this hostel was amazing! Olga picked us up at the aiport when we arrived, whisked us off to the spotless hostel and showed us to our room. It had sparkling white sheets and towels, and the beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable (and new!). The whole family was incredibly helpful in arrranging our next adventures and... more

I did a Central America tour and stayed the first nights and the last night in Maleku. Very close to the airport it can really ease your life by saving connection time. Very close to the bus station, I went to Butterfly farm and it was great. Didn´t make it to Poas Volcano but there is also very good public... more

I highly recommend Maleku Hostel; it is 3 minutes from the International Airport. It is gorgeous and clean. The place is almost new, so, beds, baths and kitchen are absolutely neat! While the word of the existence of this great place is spread, there is a bin chance that you could stay in a room with no others. You should... more

I'd never been to Costa Rica before and the three of us wanted to get a feel for one of the local places which was still close/convenient to some of the things we'd wanted to see, like a couple of local zoos and the Poas volcano and crater lake. I don't know much about other area hostels since we didn't... more
