My friends have stayed here previously and recommended it and it was a fantastic option. Living in Guanacaste this will be our place to stay when needing to get down to the city but not be in the center. The hotel is well looked after, homely and with a 16 month old in tow the staff were very child friendly!!... More

I enjoyed my first night and last night on my Costa Rica travels at Hotel Los Volcanes. The international airport is not in San Jose, it is in the city called Alajuela. Upon my arrival and departure i had a choice of the US generic chain hotels across the highway from the international airport, or for a 5 minute cab... More

I flew in from the states and arrived late afternoon...too late to start on my journey to La Fortuna for the first leg of my trip, but early enough that I could explore a little. I did NOT want to go to San Jose after hearing (and later experiencing) some not so great things about it. Alajuela is the closest... More

This hotel should get 5 stars for web site creativity The room photos were probably taken in the 1950s. They haven't been updates since, Los Volcanes is generally a dirty, threadbare, tired old hotel. We thought it would be a reasonable alternative to the generic chain hotels near Juan Santamaria airport. They claimed to offer hot water, free breakfast and... More

I can't say enough about Jose and the other gentleman who are most often working the front desk. They are kind and warm and helpful. We enjoy staying there - we find Alajuela to be a much more pleasant place to be than San Jose. (We live in a city so we don't need to be in one on vacation!)... More

I live in Montzuma and always stay in Sal's nice hotel when flying in or out of Costa Rica. Alajuela is close to the airport, and a very nice safe community with a pleasant friendly central park, a great covered market, and some good restaurant. Los Volcanes is well furnished, does a great breakfast and most of the staff have... More

Cute boutique hotel close to the airport. Staff was pleasant and spoke decent English. We stayed in a room in the front and in the back of the hotel during our visit to Costa Rica. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, but we found the rooms in the back (away from the street) to be quieter. There is very limited... More

Los Volcanes B&B has been my first choice, for the past 6 years, to stay anywhere in the central valley as I visit many different locations in the country. A $1 bus rides takes me to San Jose, a 1 minute walk gets me seat in the most comfortable center square in any town I have visited, and a 5... More

We stayed at Hotel Los Volcanes for one night before leaving for the airport the next morning. The hotel room was basic but clean and comfortable, however it was very hot and stuffy. There was a ceiling fan but it wasn't very effective. It was much cooler outside of the room than it was inside. We were right across from... More

We appreciate you take your time to share your impressions from our hotel. April is the warmest month of the year in Costa Ricaand it gets hot!! Eventhough we have some room with A/ C you selected the budget option, perhaps because you were not staying for long. The fan in the room you stay is a little tricky and... More

We had stayed in other bed and breakfast places throughout our two week stay and this was for the last night before flying out (everything for our trip was prebooked and paid months in advance). Every other place had private bathrooms and exceeded expectations. However right when I got here I had a bad feeling which I should've listened to.... More

We contacted the travel agency they booked through ( Anywhere Costa Rica ) to find out if there was a problem with the room we assigned them, but there was no mistake. Since the beginning they were clearly told the room they wanted to pay for was the budget option , with shared bathroom, located at our entrance hall ,... More
