This is a small hotel very close to the San Jose airport. The hotel is extremely well run. The owners, Norman and Isabel, and staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and are extremely helpful. A standard Tico breakfast is included with the rooms and is served in the kitchen area. The rooms are basic with... more

We stayed at the vida tropical at Alajuela for two nights. The location of the hotel is excellent, just outside the city center in a very quiet elegant neighbourhood but with all the amenities of the center only at walking distance. They have free internet and serve a decent breakfast. Their is a cozy common area where you can watch... more

We want to thank one of our guest for reporting an invasion of creepy crawlies in our Hotel. Unfortunately, with change of seasons, all those critters which enjoy the great outdoors in the summer months try to seek refuge in the dryness and comfort of our home. This year was particularly worse than others and caught us off guard, but...

My wife and I travel to CR a few times a year and after staying at several different hotels near the airport, we´ve made Vida Tropical our second home. Isabel and Norman, the folks that run the place, are great! They cook up an awesome breakfast and are there to help with your travels every step of the way. Honor... more

We had reservations here for 3 nights but left after one. We requested a room with two beds and private bath but were told the one private bath room had one bed. However, we were told we would share a bathroom with two other rooms and would never have to wait. That was incorrect. We had the Gecko room on... more

My wife and I stayed at Vida Tropical on 3 separate times over the past 2 months and enjoyed every visit. The owners, Isabel and Norman went out of their way being helpful and making us feel right at home. Isabel willingly arranged for Interbus and taxi services and helped us with our Spanish and any questions. We enjoyed their... more

I've been coming back here for over 7 years now, and I love it - it's getting better all the time. To me, it's more than a place to stay; it's a place to call home. Although it's simple enough, no one will feel deprived. There's a good, big breakfast cooked to order, Internet on tap, a homey, relaxed atmosphere... more

A fine place for the price. My room was small but colorful, and I slept well. However, be aware that the walls are thin, and you will probably get woken up before you want to (or not be able to fall asleep when you want to). The shared bathroom was fine, and there was hot water. The owners/managers really go... more

Hotel is a 10 minute ($4.00) cab ride from the airport, which is why we chose it as we were flying out the next morning to fly to the Osa peninsula. It is on a quiet street, and the worker stayed up to check us in as our flight from Miami was extremely late. I can't say that the worker... more

La Vida Tropical is a really nice place to stay. We were here for our first three nights in Costa Rica and then for the last night before we left. The hosts are very helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay here, and will hope to visit again sometime soon! more

Decent hotel, good value, but not excellent given the other budget options in Alajeula. Next time I came through Alajeula we stayed at the Villa Bonita, and I'd say it's probably a better deal. It's not bad, though! It's just that there are so many options in Alajeula, that this small B&B doesn't really stand out. Rooms are decently clean.... more
