I was not impressed with the Martino. First day they could not find the key to our room, it took them one hour to find the key. Twice we had to take a shower with cold water and the towels they left in the room were falling apart at the edges. Also there was some kind of rodent living inside... More

I stayed in the Martino "Luxury Hotel & Spa" for two nights. The whole place looks somewhat worn down and the room was infested with three different types of ants as well as several other insects. The shower and fridge didn't really look too clean and the pool area was quite dirty as well. Breakfeast consisted of some white bread... More

We stayed at the Martino hotel for a week and were very impressed and very happy there. The hotel has a classical feel to it - for example, we could have a breakfast or lunch on the restaurant's lovely balcony, overlooking the hotel's Greek or Roman-inspired swimming pool and well-kept grounds. The food was excellent (and reasonably priced!) and I... More

I am thoroughly surprised by the negative reviews posted about Martino’s. I was sure I would see more about the incredible value, and the unique architecture and small- unexpected details one finds throughout the hotel complex. If you want to spend $499 a night and get the full throttle Four Seasons treatment, this place may not be for you. But... More

We stayed at this hotel in Alajuela on our way leaving & coming back to San Jose. It felt like a relatively safe location in the San Jose area, but it is NOT a luxury resort by any american standards. Positives: The location was fairly easy to find & do-able distance to the airport (if, of course, you have a... More

We've stayed here on two different trips, once in 2002 and again in 12/06. It is a destination resort and is great for the beginning and end of your trip if you're flying in and out of San Jose. The resort has all the luxuries you could ask for and the staff is extremely helpful. One of the best values... More

We were offered a wine list with their suggenting $50 bottles. We said it was more than we were willing to pay. We asked for $35 wines, selected one. The bottle was delivered, quickly displayed, then decanted. When we got the bill they had switched the wines (we did not notice in the excitement of the evening), to a bottle... More

I made a reservation through Expedia for one night in January at the Resort Martino. I've stayed before and really like the place. A few weeks before I left for Costa Rica, the Resort Martino called me and said there had been a mistake. They didn't have a room. Since I had already paid through Expedia, they offered to book... We took our 14 year old grandson to Costa Rica to see the Rainforest. We chose Club Martino for its location and ambiance. My grandson, Cory loved the nature walk, the activities, pool, internet and game room. I was made to feel special at the SPA and the resort. The owner, Adriano Martino, and his staff was extremly welcoming, helpful... More

We had the villa for two nights, which was perfect for our group of 5 adults--twin bunks and a full sized bed in one room w/tv & wardrobe, and a king-sized bed, kitchenette, and another tv in the main room. The grounds are beautiful to stroll. I've read some of the negative reviews and feel that I have to mention... More
