We stayed in the Martino only one night so that we could catch the plane out the next day. It looked like a place that might have been four star in the past. The front desk was very effecient. the room was average but they did not have door knobs on the door only a dead bolt which ment that... more

We spent 2 nights here at the beginning of our trip and found the Martino to be clean and comfortable, the food was excellent and the staff helpful. We will definitely stay there again when we return to Costa Rica next year. more

Having spent the previous night in an awful hotel in Alajuela we decided to splash out a little for our last night in Costa Rica. Even so, £30pppn still isn't expensive! We simply showed up (11am) and our room was ready with 30 minutes from our unannounced arrival. The room was vast and clean, supplied with all the goods your... more

Hotel Martino is a wonderful choice when starting or ending your trip to Costa Rica if you fly to and from San Jose. The hotel is only 10 minutes away from the airport in the right direction, away from the city of San Jose, in the "garden district", many of the other hotels are the other direction and it's not... more

I was not impressed with the Martino. First day they could not find the key to our room, it took them one hour to find the key. Twice we had to take a shower with cold water and the towels they left in the room were falling apart at the edges. Also there was some kind of rodent living inside... more

I stayed in the Martino "Luxury Hotel & Spa" for two nights. The whole place looks somewhat worn down and the room was infested with three different types of ants as well as several other insects. The shower and fridge didn't really look too clean and the pool area was quite dirty as well. Breakfeast consisted of some white bread... more

We stayed at the Martino hotel for a week and were very impressed and very happy there. The hotel has a classical feel to it - for example, we could have a breakfast or lunch on the restaurant's lovely balcony, overlooking the hotel's Greek or Roman-inspired swimming pool and well-kept grounds. The food was excellent (and reasonably priced!) and I... more

I am thoroughly surprised by the negative reviews posted about Martino’s. I was sure I would see more about the incredible value, and the unique architecture and small- unexpected details one finds throughout the hotel complex. If you want to spend $499 a night and get the full throttle Four Seasons treatment, this place may not be for you. But... more

We stayed at this hotel in Alajuela on our way leaving & coming back to San Jose. It felt like a relatively safe location in the San Jose area, but it is NOT a luxury resort by any american standards. Positives: The location was fairly easy to find & do-able distance to the airport (if, of course, you have a... more

We've stayed here on two different trips, once in 2002 and again in 12/06. It is a destination resort and is great for the beginning and end of your trip if you're flying in and out of San Jose. The resort has all the luxuries you could ask for and the staff is extremely helpful. One of the best values... more
