This is a super cheap place to catchb up on some sleep before or after your flight. It's basic, no frills and a bit tired in places, but it's safe and clean. Johnny is just fine, think the people describing him as 'sketchy' might be a bit paranoid! He's not terribly talkative, but speaks good English and was friendly in... More

I found the "Hotel El Cacique" though a hostel booking site online and ended up not staying there after a quick glance and a recommendation by our cab driver. The owner Johnny had responded to a message I had sent regarding availability (with a "yes") but did not respond to the official booking and said the place wasn't ready for... More

3 minutes and $3 by taxi from the airport. Nothing fancy, but who needs fancy when the prices are so good for a room and a bed that are clean and comfortable. Johnny, the fellow who single-handedly runs and operates this place, is personable, speaks fluent English as well as his native Spanish, and will help you to meet your... More

This is a great place to crash at if San Jose is just one more pit stop before/after your flight. Super close to airport. Stayed twice on my trip to CR. Not fancy but cheap, clean and comfortable with free wi-fi. Johnny is awesome, personally helped me out and great just to chat with. Good for singles and couples, perhaps... More

I've stayed in many hostels and B &B's. This is expensive for what you get. Place is old and needs alot of tlc. Shower was sparking like crazy and the noise of planes and highway make sleeping rough. Owner is a nice guy and for a few hours for a place to crash well okay... but I think next time... More

I stay at the El Cacique several times a year when I travel in and out of San Jose. If I don't have a lot of luggage I can walk there in 10 minutes from the airport, otherwise a taxi is about $3-5. John is the owner/manager and speaks excellent English and his parents help out as well. Very relaxed,... More

This place is so close to the airport, that you can literally sometimest watch the runway and planes to get up. But the airport is not so busy, so you can have a nice sleep. It's probably the best place to stay if you arrive late at night to San José or if your flight leaves early in the morning.... More

We stayed here the night we arrived in Costa Rica, the room was clean and the host Johnny is really friendly and helpful, the place is real Costa Rica life, so cool!! We loved it, the coffee was awesome, and Johnny even helped us find a rent a car calling himself, with no extra charge! We recommend it!!!

Johnny's place is an excellent option for arrival and departure days at the San Jose airport, SJO. His place is simple, spotless, safe and literally within walking distance of the airport though I highly recommend spending $4 on a cab that Johnny can arrange for you. Johnny's English is excellent if you prefer to communicate in English. We did not... More

The "Hotel El Cacique" offers clean rooms, close to the airport. You can walk to and from the airport, but you have to cross two bigger streets (for the adventurous once) or take a taxi 4-5$. For 30 dollars a night you can get much more in Costa Rica! It is quite loud because of the traffic, and everything is... More

Among Holiday inn express, the Hampton inn & the Marriot (by the way all these cost over a hundred USD) , the ONLY affordable choice in the airport area is my home, hotel el Cacique! It is a very small airport, planes & traffic do not go all night, rest is guaranteed! What you should've done was sit on my... More
