Two double beds upon arrival was really one bed. The cleanliness was lacking as the bathroom smelled. I was disappointed and plan on telling the person that recommended it to me. They have lots of rules and I do not understand why because no one follows them. People were screaming and partying all night long so we had no sleep.... More

I did not stay in the hostel part of the place, but had a private room. Everyone is helpful and nice, and the place feels very safe and is run professionally with a real desk and helpful staff that don't make you feel like you are inconveniencing them (which I cannot say the same for Cala Inn). You really can't... More

I stayed in Alajuela only for one night, to fly on the next early morning with Sansa Air to Tambor. The Hostel looks very new from the outside, also the interior inside is really nice and modern. You have a fancy elevator in the centre of the building, which is ideal if you have much baggage, young friendly stuff and... More

This hostel was a great bet for a first night in CR. Only a cheap cab ride away from the airport (they also offer a shuttle), it was a nice, low-stress way to start our trip. It was very clean and we felt safe. It was, however, the most we paid for lodging the entire trip (we stayed at the... More

The room was big and seemed clean, however very noisy at night. They have a bar with a really nice view, the breakfast served here is good. On their website they claim to have tours, since we were spending two nights we had inquired about this in advance. When we arrived the person in the reception had no idea what... More

The ideal place to start your journey of discovering Costa Rica. Very close to the main San Jose airport with cheap and comfy rooms/dorms. Impressive service from Spanish and English speaking staff. Perhaps the best part about the place is the access to the rest of the country. From alajuela it is easy to access the old coca-cola bus station... More

This is a hostel which could use a little work. I stayed here because of a last minute change to my plans and needed to be near the airport. This hostel doesn't stand out. I walked right past it before walking across the street and then recognizing the building from the picture. A hotel or hostel should stand out. The... More

I was really surprised how nice this big hostel was!. The rooms were very clean and even though there were very few bathrooms and showers for all of us we didn´t have any problems. The people working there were extremely nice and they really enjoyed spending time chating with us and making us feel welcome. Plus is very well located... More

We visited this place back in July. The interior is a little dark and sparse. Our room was very big though, and the place was kept pretty clean. There's a little lack of natural light in parts of the building. Our windows looked into the interior of the hotel of which the skylight was covered by plexiglass. There is an... More

Alajuela Backpackers is very convenient and if you are looking for something affordable and nice close to the airport, there probably isn't anything better. Most travelers have a solid 1 night stay here given the proximity to the airport, and the town has what you need to get through the night. Nothing fancy or adventurous, but just enough. I missed...
