Alajuela is a great option to avoid San Jose if you need to go to the airport. And the hotel Cortez Azul is probably the best place to stay ! The owner is very nice and will do his best to provide you the room you need ! They have both private room and dorms. The whole house is clean... More

My husband and I ordered the hotel for one night through the Booking. The hotel is close to the airport near the center of the city. The guy from reception very nice and helpful. Helped us in everything we asked. First and most importantly-the price on booking is more expensive than offered by the hotel instead of himself. $ 20... More

I stayed here on a layover in Costa Rica. It was pretty empty and dark. Towels are not provided. Bed was not the comfiest. Good for a layover but I wouldn't recommend staying any longer! We paid $30 for private room with shared bath but it certainly wasn't worth $30.... I stayed in far cheaper, nicer private rooms in nicaragua.... More

We stayed here for one night. I booked a private room with bathroom. The place is pretty much what you'd expect for a "backpacker" type hotel. The staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast was cereal, toast and fruit. There was a safety issue with the hot water shower head. Otherwise, I'd stay there again. It was really inexpensive.

I stay there in November. im not really like big cities, thats why i was looking for a hostel around the airport. Alajuela its small, quiet, nice and safe, and only 10 min. away from the Airport. When i arrived on the evening in the Hotel Cortez Azul, (more a Hostel) there welcome me, evan without any booking. The workers... More

but if you have time to find a better alternative for the price I would recommend to do some more investigation. At least they have a kitchen for free use, clean beds and rooms, hot showers and if you tell the staff in advance that you want a room with a window you should get one if available.

This little cozy hotel is my home away from home. I live in Costa Rica and everytime I fly in I go straight to Hotel Cortez Azul ... The receptionist is always friendly, rooms always clean, I love the central downtown location, only 5 minutes from the airport, and you can't beat the price. This is by far the nicest... More

The staff is very nice, interior of the hostel is decorated with various arts, very interesting. But very big of the hostel are bugs and clean. We were leaving with my girlfriend with many bits on hands and face. Not the best experience. Till when they don't sort the problem, not re- commanded.

hello , we apologize for the inconvenience caused by bed bugs, only we want to tell you that we have already solved the problem and bought new mattresses and we hired a company specialized in this type of animal, I also tell you that the problem was in two of the rooms and not in the hotel, we apologize again... We arrived early in the morning and Rolando was very welcoming and helpful. We were going for a dorm which was $12 per person but he told us it was better to go for a double private room for $11 per person. It was a great idea plus we saved some money. There is breakfast every morning (fruits and cereals).... More

I was only staying in this hostel for less than 24 hours before flying out if San Jose airport. If I had been there longer I am afraid I would have asked to look at other rooms or gone somewhere else altogether. I arrived in the dark and did not get a good feeling from Alajuela as a whole (clearly... More
