I reserved 3 rooms here for ourselves and friends several months ago, based solely on the reviews here on TripAdvisor.  I reconfirmed by e-mail just a few days before (and got a confirmed response), and even went so far as to guarantee it on my Amex card.  But when we arrived, the woman at the desk, who spoke no English,... more

a really charming hotel. i only wish the employees spoke a bit more english, but the manager i believe was really nice and let us leave our bags in our room past the check-out time so we could get some lunch before heading to the airport. it's a really lovely place. more

We stayed at the 1915 for only 1 night and really wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is very stylish and elegant, Spanish colonial style and all the rooms (we saw a bunch of them) are different and unique and beautiful. The hotel is greatly located in the centre of Alajuela, 30km south of the Poas volcanoe (must... more

Your first impression of Hotel 1915 may be that it appears to be a dark, old building but don't let that stop you from taking a look inside where you will discover a charming place. Rooms are basic but clean. The free internet is a bonus. Alajuela makes a great base for going to/from the airport. more

I stayed for two weeks at the Hotel 1915 while on a church mission in Alajuela, a suburb of San Jose. The hotel is clean, wonderful staff, great breakfasts. The hotel is old as it truly was built in the year 1915. Rooms are comfortable but sparse. Showers and bathroom floors are slippery (and even more so when wet as... more

We stayed for one night only on our way out of Costa Rica. We found the hotel through the Lonely Planet guide while we were driving back to Alajuela and they highly recommended it so we thought we'd give it a shot. It was just incredible. The owner and her granddaughter were so accomodating. The place is just incredibly gorgeous... more

The positive: We stayed in the Hotel 1915 on our first night in Costa Rica and found the hotel very charming and the staff friendly. The breakfast was also the best we had during our two week stay. The Negative: We arranged (in person) to stay the night before we flew out, but by the time we arrived we were... more

I read about this hotel in the LonelyPlanet and on Trip Advisor and I am really glad that we (Wife, 18 month old baby, parents-in-law) ended up staying here. We all really liked it. Not only is the hotel about a 10 minute drive to the airport, but the hotel itself is really cozy and charming. Be sure to get... more

We stayed at the 1915 for 4 nights and were truly impressed. The staff helped arrange trips and made helpful suggestions on what to do. The rooms were clean but most impressive were the common rooms which were decorated in a stylish yet warm fashion. If you need a place to stay near San Jose I highly recommend the 1915! more

On arriving at the Hotel 1915 we thought the place must be closed. We didn't have a reservation and there was no sign of life from the outside. But, looking closely, we saw a doorbell and were let in. The lady greeting us did not know English and our Spanish is poor so she called a fellow who came and... more
