I was here just for one night and everything was quite fine except for the basket of condoms for sale on the room desk, female hostesses "business cards" that were put under my door every hour of the night and no Wi-Fi or any sort of connection in all the building. But the location was really convenient so I decided... More

My preference is for historic, 'characteristic' hotels, so when my firm organised a conference at the Westin across the road my husband and I decided to try the Villas 1931. I hate standardised hotels that look the same anywhere in the world! However, if a future conference were organised at the Westin I'd stay somewhere else nearby, not Villas 1931.... More

1) Cleaniness: room was clean. 2) Location: centralised location with Nanjing Road is a short walk away, not too bad for the price and in comparison with the prices of hotels in the surrounding area. 3) Rooms: for a local hotel the room was a bit small, but adequately equipped. There is no satellite TV, so we only had chinese... More

Excellent location close to the Bund and metro (and diagonally across from the Westin - but at a fraction of the price). Rooms a good size and with plenty of bathroom accessories. A little worn but good standard and comfortable. Staff speak some English, definitely enough to communicate fine, and are really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
