The hostel staff wasn't keen to provide us with information or recommendations. The room was fine, but the hostel is located between a kindergarten and a school, who's band woke us up every morning around 7am. The common area is nice, its the cafe of the hostel itself. Not the best atmosphere, would not go back there.

This is a great budget hostel. No doubt a top hostel in Shanghai. It's in a great location close to the subway that will let access any part of the city. The dorms are clean with outlets by your bed, always a plus. They provide lockers. Towels can be rented. Also a tip of you want to buy some beer... More

I've stayed at other hostlers in Hangzhou and Shanghai. This is just average. My expectations was not very high. But the Internet speed is so slow you can hardly access social media. The location is conveniently close to People's Square metro.

Our flight was delayed and we were worried that we weren't going to arrive at the hostel before 1am, when the reception closes. We sent some emails to explain our situation and make sure there would be someone to open the door but we got no answer, so we had some bad time there hoping we wouldn't have to spend... More

It has a very cool vibe at first, but the rooms were generally uncomfortable, and the internet was downright unusable. Besides this it was an alright place to stay, but I found the lack of internet a major downfall for this day and age.

Just spent 2 nights here. The hostel is in a great location, just by Nanjing Road and Peoples Square and only a 30 minute walk to The Bund. The hostel itself is a little difficult to find, tucked away in a side street. I was in a 6 bed dorm, room was clean with air con, toilet and shower both... More

This is one of the best hostels I've been to in Shanghai, nice and clean rooms, silent enough, very helpful staff which helped me with the transports to the airport and facilities nearby. The location is great, within walking distance to Nanjing road, but still in a characteristic local neighborhood. Great value for money and with plenty of restaurants, cheap... More

I found it somewhat difficult to find a good, affordable place in Shanghai. It was either above budget or I didn't like the location. But Mingtown E-tour is a good place to stay if you want to stay in central Shanghai. It's very close to the People's Square, Shanghai Museum, Nangjin Street (lots of shops). The Bunds is about a... I loved my stay in Mingtown Etour Youth Hostel in May 15. You can enjoy a beer on the terrace. Dormitory are pretty clean & you have wifi pretty much everywhere. Location is pretty convenient as well.

Location is perfect, right by People's Park (hardly Central Park NY - something lacking somehow - yet a great viewing greenish lung for some awesome skyscrapers.) You can walk to The Bund easily within half an hour; French Concession easy reach t'other direction. Metro connection to either normal trains (3 stops) or high speed - though further out, south -... Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
