The hotel is well located, next to Fuxing Park and a short walk from a plethora of restaurants and shopping. Though decent, the hotel itself is beginning to show its age. The rooms are spacious, but a tad worn. The top floor bar/ restaurant mentioned in the hotel description was never open when I visited (in the early evening), but... More

I stayed at the Pudi Boutique hotel for 7 nights in May during a business trip as the hotel was right next to the buidling i was working in. This is in a quiet area of the city and is about 20 minutes taxi ride to somewhere like the Bund. It is also just around the corner from the beautiful... More

The Hotel is well located in a quieter area of Shanghai near some interesting eateries. Rooms were decent sized and we stayed in one of the suites which were in need of some redecoration with peeling paint in the room if you look closely enough. Rooms were dimly lit. The breakfast as previously mentioned was very poor. The service was... More

For one, the breakfast is horrible here. I have stayed at other hotels in Shanghai that are cheaper and have a much better breakfast. If you are a person who cares about this, don't stay here. Secondly, finding a taxi is a nightmare here as the hotel is located on a backstreet with not much traffic. But the upside is... More

This is a great hotel with a good location; close to both Lines 1 and 10 of the MTR. It is also close to high end shopping, if that is want you want. Also if you want a change from Chinese food there are several restaurants serving food from around the world at Xiantandi. The hotel entrance is around the... More

We stayed her based on a recommendation from friends and positive trip advisor reviews. We had a wonderful 5 nights here in March. The room was spacious with a large, comfy bed and the bathroom was huge with a jacuzzi bath. The room had free wifi and was non smoking. The hotel location is great, right next to Fuxing Park... Good value for the rate. Nicely decorated and friendly staff. Nice surrondings with good restaurants and bars. The only negative was that the breakfast was served at a nearby coffe shop and we only had one breakfast and wasted the rest of the breakfast tickets and ate at Starbucks instead. The hotel manager should definitly consider serving breakfast inside the... More

Rather small dark entrance and corridors but rooms themselves were spacious. On the floor I was on there was a fish tank outside every room. The room was nicely equipped, quiet with a large comfortable bed. The restaurant on the top floor was being refurbished, which it needed. The gym seemed to have disappeared. For breakfast it was necessary to... More

I found out during my trip to Shanghai that most taxi drivers don't know the exact whereabouts of this hotel, as it is nicely hidden away at the corner of the lovely Fuxing Park in the old French Quarter of Shanghai. I am kind of glad that not too many people know where it is, because it feels kind of... More

I found this hotel by chance when I wanted to stay a few extra days in Shanghai. I can't recommend it enough! I don't want to give away the secret I loved it so much but I will because I rely on reviews when I am staying in different hotels. The price was very reasonable and when I checked into... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
