I booked a non-moking room at the Da Zhong South Tower in July for last night. The hotel was well-advised that I would be arriving at 11 p.m. I had ordered a "Standard Room" - 458 RMB per night. A room was allocated. I knew things would not be good as I approached the second floor on which the room... More

When I walked into the room, it reminded me of Austin Power's bachelor pad, the round bed, the crescent shaped sofa, the rounded tables. But, the location was marvellous and the airport has a dozen restaurants right downstairs. One thing, though, and it's certainly not unique to this hotel, while in China, I've never had a "No Smoking" sign obeyed... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
