Small foyer with a shop, ideal for those last minute gifts. large bar area to the left which we were able to sit in and wait for our coach, not hassled by the staff, The room was a little tired looking and the carpet was well past it's life, stained and very dirty which not even a good clean could... We stayed here as part of a group touring China like so many who write here. Good size room with comfortable king size bed. Good toiletries and constant hot water from the shower. Breakfast was good by any standard with great views over the city.

Touring as part of a group - 10 - comfortable bed and large bathroom. Very noisy, smog all around. Reasonable room facilities and lovely to make tea at any time to suit us. Fridge was a useful resource. Staff appeared to be unfriendly but in hindsight I think they had a very level of English so find some requests strange.... More

It may be coincidence but our travel agency booked us in for bed and breakfast, with dinner at a different venue (there are plenty of eating places around the hotel, and the cab service is very good). The hotel is big, the staff are pretty non-committal/non-communicative, but the rooms are excellent, clean and comfortable.

Staff were non communicative, no information was given about wifi, breakfast, you had to work it out for yourself. The room 1808 was better than my low expectations 2 room; lounge and bedroom with ensuite, the bedroom door could be locked, wooden floors, marble bathroom, lovely golden patterned wallpaper. Water available, plenty of products, comb, razor etc. the TV had... More

Stayed here as part of my china tour. This hotel is mainly meant for tour groups. We gotta room on the 18th floor with exquisite views of the city and the bund. (Pictures from room attached). The room was very clean, neat... no complains whatsoever! They had tea/coffee, English movie channels, well equipped bath, iron in the room.... & was... More

Jiulong review: I've spent 2 nights here as part of a Travelsphere tour in China. I had read some reviews in advance hence was prepared and the hotel unfortunately met my low expectations. The good: -The bathroom was relatively clean, with plenty of toiletries provided and also quite light too. -The room was of a good size and the bed... More

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
