I was a little afraid beeing so far away from the citycenter, but when I realized that going there it takes just 15 minutes by the excellent metro, I was glad that I made the decision to book that hotel. The hotel is very clean, the staff pleasing and the food good. Even the surrondings is very pleasant and somehow... More

They don't speak english. And the staff is not good in dealing with costumers. I don't like the place and it wasn't well known for the taxi driver so you have to show him the full address.if I could give them less I would also they don't take the money in dolar you have to change your money to yuan... We stayed here for one night as part of the tour, we didn't know exactly how much we paid for the hotel because it is part of the tour package, but according to our tour guide it is about $40, for that this is a great hotel. Facility: The hotel looks fairly new, the public areas are very well maintained... More

This is a very large hotel, a bit far from any of the touristy sites in Shanghai. The breakfast was decent and abundant and the rooms were good sized. Also, they had all conceivable power outlets -- a nice benefit! Only two floors of the hotel are non-smoking, so if that is important to you please check on booking. There... More

20-30 minute taxi ride to People Square ( 5-6 Euros). Very elegant, clean and quiet. A place to find a good rest from all the excitement that Shanghai offers you. Good selection of food for breakfast. The stuff is very polite and helpful with sufficient knowledge of English. I recommend this hotel.

Guang Dong Hotel is a nice hotel little away from Shanghai crowd . The hotel has a nice friendly staff . There is a automatic money changer in the hotel which is nice to change the money any time required.

Nice, clean and comfortable bed. The breakfast buffet is pretty good as well. More selection for asian cuisine and less for western cuisine. They charge 200 RMB for deposit compared to other hotels charging 300 RMB in Xian and Beijing.

I had to stayed for 3 nights and 4 days. Was alone in Shanghai. The staff is friendly and location is very good. It is a beautifully decorated hotel and rooms are spacious and service is excellent. Although it was a bit difficult to communicate but staff go an extra mile to understand and help you. Few shops are near... More

for 299rmb ($60) for the night, you get a very comfortable room that is very good value. if you pay a lot more, then you might want to reconsider. Our room had a nice bath tub that had a window into the bedroom, the view was of the highway, and the shower was a 'rain forest' type. Closer inspection revealed... More

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
