I'm not sure how this hotel gets such a high rating for cleanliness. There was a 2 inch border of dust all the way around the room and behind all the doors. It was the only hotel where we felt compelled to keep something on our feet the entire time. Carpets in the room and hallways were badly stained. The... More

We checked into this hotel December 25 th. and stayed 4 nights. It met all of our expectations. We found the room to be very clean and serviced promptly every day. The location of the hotel was fantastic being a short walk to the Bund, close to many restaurants, lots of shopping, and very charming area close to the Yu... More

I live in Shanghai, and book Classical Hotel whenever I have a visit (friends, family, etc). I have slept myself in this place several times. Placed in the middle of an area known as Old Shanghai, it is near the city center, but the area still has some of the taste and atmosphere of the old times of the city... More

We really enjoyed our recent 3 nights at the Shanghai Classical Hotel. It was very well located within the Old Town tourist & shopping district, was a short taxi ride to Nanjing Rd and Peoples Square. We were also able to walk about 2km to the Bund. Our standard room on 4th floor was clean and spacious enough, staff was... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the streets that serve as the border to the old city. An aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan (which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists every day, but wandering the streets around the complex reveals more exciting attractions such as food and antique markets. There are also streets lined with shops peddling everyday wares such as Chinese dining ware and craft notions that can be even more enticing to visitors uninterested in the usual tourist fare.
