Greeting to a dismayed traveler, I understand how you must have felt. The Metropole opened in 1931, in all her then glory I believe; and now has closed summer 2014. Although it is easy to be seduced by the attractive foyer, a trip to you room will reveal how this once attrctive hotel has been allowed to decline through lack of maintenance and greed. The hotel has a good location. It is very close to the bund and a metro station was also right around the corner. The room was large but very old. Some furnitures were broken, no safe and in addition the power plug in the bathroom wasn't working. Overall an average experience.

This hotel/hostel was clean and had a frig in the room the bathroom was neat and clean I think they provided toothbrushes and paste for us there was also coffee and tea in the room. What can I say about the Metropole. Well it's a very expensive bog standard 3 star hotel for which they charge £68.00 (roughly) per night in a standard room. Rooms are clean enough and hallways etc are well kept, however, definitely not worth the amount charged on the door. The service isn't brilliant and there aren't too many staff that... More
