As a single female in Shanghai, this hotel was situated perfectly in central shopping area, safe neighbourhood and good security. Rooms were comfortable but clean freaks will found issues! Some great dumplings and pancakes at local neighbourhood food spots - just follow the queues of locals. Breakfast at hotel was interesting - preferred the dumplings to their idea of a... more

The location is good. The price is nice. But even though the staff tried really REALLY hard, they couldn't compensate for the age and disrepair of the hotel building. I was moved to 3 different rooms during my 1 night stay. All the rooms had worn carpeting, some water stains on the walls or ceilings, and pealing wallpaper. But NO... more

Excellent location, near the Bund. Affordable Rooms. Its an old hotel that was probably grand around 20 years ago, but the place is still ok. They even upgraded our rooms to bigger ones and treated us very well. The staff were nice and very helpful. more

Basically, only the building on the outside and the lobby impressed me for historical/architectural reasons. The staff was not friendly-plain rude sometimes- and the room was old with the heating not working very well. The only good thing is that it is a 5 minute walk to the Bund. more

We stayed here based on a friend's recommendation. Had a superior room, booked through ctrip, with an extra bed (hard camp bed). Generally good service from friendly staff. We had a room on the 4th floor, and on the first night there was very loud roadworks outside our window. We asked to move about 11pm to a quieter room, which... more

Our first visit stay is metropole Hotel, is located next to bund and the busiest road Nanjing ( 2 block ), best location for the first traveler, but I would not recomended to a family traveler, specially with a younger kid. This hotel is just right for the older folks whose want just to nostalgia the feeling of the old... more

This is the worst example of Chinese hotels outright lying in dealing with westerners I have faced since coming here on September 19 and traveling in 4 other cities before arriving in Shanghai. I booked the reservation with the hotel in August 2007 for a four night stay for October 5-9, 2007. Prepaid the deposit with a credit card to... more

This is probably the most affordable option for those who crave a little bit of old Shanghai. The art deco exterior is fabulous and the lobby still maintains a little of its former glory. Unfortunately the art deco didn’t carry over to the room but it still had the spaciousness of an old grand hotel. We had a room in... more
