Overall, this is a hotel that has seen better days. With her beauty and charm long gone, she's like a model who aged terribly with all the partying and smoking in her younger days. THE GOOD: Architecture. It befits the name. THE BAD: We got a non-smoking room, but was stuck in a smoking room for 3 days. Even worse,... More

Excellent location for going down town but the rooms are grubby and dirty. Bar very expensive and closes early. Very interesting all night bar across the road! Reasonable selection at breakfast. Easy walk to the subway station.

This hotel turned out to be better than I was expecting. The room was very nice, clean and a good variety of amenities. Breakfast was not what I was used to and you have to sit with other guests. The bar is a NO GO area! Very expensive (coke is 38 yeun, if you go to the shop it only... More

This hotel, well, it is toooooooo old. My coworkers booked this hotel for me. The area and public traffic is good. It is cheap, clean I think. The room and the service is good, breakfast is common style.

I stayed here for three nights as part of a tour and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is a little old and worn in parts but it is clean and housekeeping is good. My room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was clean with no problems. Staff seemed helpful and friendly. The breakfast choice was excellent, better than most of... More

I'll start with the bad. It took me 4 hotel keys and 3 trips back to reception, and 45 minutes with the night manager before I saw a room. This is a very old hotel run by the Chinese government. Once I was in a room, it was lovely. Nice furniture and linens, spacious bath, lots of dark wood and... More

This hotel was reminiscent of the cold war era soviet style. The elevators were ancient. The rooms were ancient. The girls who approach you prior to getting to our elevator are pushy and ancient. It was cheap and the only one that had availability in the area. Stayed for business but met most of my clients at the Hyatt around... More

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a tour, as stated in other reviews the rooms are rather old and dated. Bar prices are expensive and watch out for the little side bar which is really a place for hooking up with the local ladies. Plenty of choice for breakfast but hot food not very hot. I doubt I would... More

I directed a meeting for 80 people at The Langham in Shanghai and I had a very successful experience because the caring and nurturing attitude of their staff. They paid attention to every detail, they had incredibly positive attitudes and would service our every request. The sleeping rooms were amazing - very modern, well decorated and had lots of features... More

Staying in Jing'an

Neighborhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
