Stayed here with EFTours. This hotel was great with good city views in a quiet and safe neighbors on west side. The neighborhood is filed with lower rise buildings from the early to mid century. The park half a block a way is gorgeous and in afternoons and evenings you can pick up basketball game The hotel is clean but... More

This hotel was ok... For the most part clean but carpets are not well maintained... Good effort by hotel in general up-keeping, but could be much better. This hotel is (ehh). I probably would not return for a second visit, it's just not worth it.

EF tours last hotel on tour. Not sure what others are talking about. First room was so stinky had to ask for different room. Next room was not much better. Evidently vacuum cleaners do not exist in Shanghai, carpets in common areas and rooms were filthy. I mean like visibly filthy and stained, smelled musty and wreaked of cigarette smoke... More

Stayed in this hotel in end of March for 4 days. Time from Pudong airport to hotel was about 50 minutes by car. The hotel itself was acceptable. The room upon arrival was not ready (may be because I arrived too early at 11am) and was forced to wait for the cleaning being finished. The room itself had enough space,... More

I have now stayed in this hotel on four occasions over several years. On my last three trips I stayed in a King Size suite and on this last trip ( December 2013January 2014) I stayed in suite no. 82510. I found the suite to be well maintained, regularly cleaned, and having spectacular views. The bathroom was well equipped with... More

Excellent location, close to 3 subway stations and many bus routes, taxi is always available, lots of boutiques just around the corner, walking distance to XuJiaHui, fancy shopping area. Front desk was extremely helpful. Floor 15 and 22 are smoke free, complimentary breakfast, two restaurants in hotel, enjoyed the stay. NO WIFI

This is a Hotel which is best liked for its location and cleanliness. Its a 3 star but the facilities are more than adequate for a pleasant stay . Front Desk persons speak reasonably good English, but for other services it is advisable to know Dumb Charade . But this is true for almost all Hotels in Shanghai. Rooms are... More

35 of us from Cincinnati were on a tour and stayed here while in Shanghai. I really liked the neighborhood in the French Concession area. You can walk to the nearby park and observe folks doing their daily Tai Chi exercises, etc. There are shops and restaurants all nearby. Our room # 1511 was modern and clean with a Queen bed.... More

3rd stop, nicest on 3 city tour - our guide called it "Swanky." 4 star rooms. 2 twins or queen. Rooms overlooked park or Chinese garden & amazing neon lights (8-10). Clean. 2 bottles of free water daily (don't even brush teeth with tap water in China). 3 free business floor computers (9-9). Evening hotel floor hostess at elevator. Good... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
