I have stayed at the Hongqiao several times on business. Its close to the airport had no problems with getting a taxi and I usually go downtown for a good restaurant. This hotel has been around for a while and not up to the standard Marriott I have stayed in before. Needs to be upgraded. The staff is very friendly... More

We visited Shanghai last september, it was our first time in China in general. The hotel is situated in a nice location ( Starbucks, Costa next to the building). The personel was very helpful from and everyone spoke English. Breakfast was very nice with plenty international tastes. Rooms where specious, clean and tidy, with a beautiful view. The one bad... The Hotel is a good hotel for business people however the bathroom is very small. The restaurants are expensive at the hotel compared to some in the local area. for what you get it is not worth the money per night. I arrived in a Taxi from the airport and nobody helped me with my bags and you would expect... More

Centrally located with close proximity to the commercial malls and cruise. Huge and comfortable hotel. Great food. Decent number of English understanding staff. Conference halls are high capacity with multiple (6) medium conference rooms. WiFi access is a boon especially for international roaming customers. You will be able to use WhatsApp (unlike the myth that it is blocked in China)

Stayed a couple of days there - nothing much to say. Not exactly in downtown but you have some restaurants on Hong Mei road nearby. Good location if you need to be close to HongQiao airport or railway station. Rooms are of good size, with decent bathroom. Inside open air place where you can work or enjoy a chat. Bars... More

Checked in with 2 other business colleagues and due to hotel being fully booked they offered us to share the Presidential Suite which has 3 bedrooms at same price as our individual rooms. This suite was incredible. Dining room, Lounge, Kitchen, Gym room and all bedrooms had own bathrooms. Master even had sauna. Wifi was good, a couple of beers... More

I found this property to be below the Marriott standards I find at other Marriott properties. The executive lounge had just a handful of snacks and a small fridge with drinks that were room temperature...very disappointed. The lobby was very warm during my evening there and was uncomfortable during dinner at the 1st floor café. The elevators were cooler than... More

This is pure Marriott. If you walk into the room, you could have been in a Marriott in the U.S. Very good room. Restaurant food and service good. Wifi could have been better. I tried to make the room cooler, but they must limit how cool you can make it.

Cant get Hilton Hongqiao during the period and went for this marriot. Hardware need some catch up to hilton however it still way better then local PRC hotel chain standard. Software service is very good. Starbuck just within the hotel building is a plus point for solo business traveller that need a "pick me up" moment.

The hotel staff is friendly the rooms are clean, but this place is in dire need of an update and measurable improvement of their breakfast buffet. Stayed here 2 nights and overall things were fine. The rooms and exterior of the hotel are viably worn / outdated. For the rate, there are many better options in Shanghai.

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
