It was not a good sign when checking in took longer than 25 minutes. The front desk girl just couldn't find my reservation I made on Accor website, neither the reservation department. After 5 minutes of looking lost, she simply told me to contact Accor's customer service myself! The manager on duty finally came out on my insistence and located... More

The Royalton was recently acquired by the Accor Group and renamed “Mercure Hotel”. The branding was a bit confusing at the moment – The neon lights outside the building says “Mercure Hotel”; as is the wrapping of the bar soap in the room. But you still see “Royalton Hotel” printed on the stationary & notepad; and it’s called “Mecure Royalton”... More

we spent 2 nights at this Hotel. the well cleaned room, well equipped, very spacious room. I think the most beautiful room of my stay in China. quality breakfast, varied, smiling staff. but it is the free wifi which is to improve. it does have free wifi limited to 1Mb / s but that jumps all the time (iPad and... This is a good hotel for the price range with more modern and well-maintained rooms than many other similar hotels in China. Do check if the location is what you want — you are in the bustling megapolis that is Shanghai, just not the touristy parts of it. They have a basic-speed Internet service for free and a paid faster tier.... More

Comfortable, large room well furnished for my needs. Good - but wobbly! - desk. In room wifi performed every time. Good lighting choices. Comfortable bed - but soft pillows. (Guess I should have asked to change them.) Outstanding buffet breakfast. Other meals just fine - although both the Chinese and Japanese restaurants lacked atmosphere. Very routine, functional kinds of places.... More

We had two of our booking cancelled by the hotel as a result of the hotel overselling. The staff tried to tell us that we did not have a reservation - this was not true. The staff did not attempt to make alternative arrangements such as finding another hotel. They said that this would be too expensive and refused to... More

I make frequent (~monthly) business trips to Shanghai and always stay at this hotel. I would not say it is a luxurious hotel – there are higher-class options like Sheraton and Marriot, just name a few, within the vicinity (~15 min by taxi). But Royalton is a real deal. Two things I like most about it: 1] Maintenance of the... More

Almost two months ago, I was in this hotel, This hotel is a normal hotel. Although in general the hotel was a appropriate place to accommodation, but Hotel receptionists had a very bad temper. The impact of bad memories for me of the hotel.

4 good nights, silencious and wide room, good breakfast, fair price (780 rmb/night) and near to metro station Zhong Shan Park line 2. Very satisfied stay for my business trip to Shanghai. I'll be again there next time.

I used Royalton in the past, so i am quite familiar with it. It is a nice hotel, positioned in eastern part of the city but close to main roads so it is in fact not a fuss. Hotel itself is great, food (breakfast) in restaurant very good. Great choice of food for anyone... Room sizes are fair, room standard... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
