Checked-in staff (a Chinese gentle man) was very bad manner, not very patient to answer the questions and even there's no eye contact. The decoration of the room was old, but it's clean. Very thankful that they kept my mobile which I left at the room, after checking out. the security staff was very kind when I was back to... More

I have been staying in this hotel for a number of years now more due to habit than anything else. From checking in to leaving I cannot say the staff are friendly, and I actually think some of the staff on the check-in desk are quite rude. For the number of foreign travellers that I see staying there, few people... More

We went as a large group with students and the hotel was really in need of an update. The wifi did not work in the room despite having the password (login page did not reroute properly), nor did our TV turn on. They ran out of room keys so gave us one for 2 people. The room reeked of cigarettes... More

When I made the reservation I thought Rainbow will be like Jin Jiang Hotel on Mao Ming Road but I was wrong. This is a factory type hotel far from being international although they had many western guests. English is not widely known accross the hotel staff. The rooms are small and the price is above average. The wifi was... More

Disappointed by the hotel: everything is very Chinese and not geared to the casual tourist / businessman, with some features below standard. List of gripes: - English not widely spoken by staff - TV has 45 channels, 42 of which are in Chinese, and the remaining 3 have a grainy picture and bad sound - getting a freshly brewed coffee... Good hotel, nice and helpful staff, and they do speak English which is valuable and important in China. Clean rooms, decent size, good internet/wife (you need to pay for it). Only downside is no breakfast included. In overall I would recommend it.

Very convenient if you need to transit overnight between airports, very clean and staff very good in English. Chinese restaurant on level 2 is good. Nothing is a problem to teis hotel and the price is very reasonable.

I stayed at the Rainbow Hotel ( Hong Qiao Bin Guan ) for 10 days in a standard room on the 9th Floor during January 2010. My travel experience to Shanghai goes back to 1994 and I have completed at least 40 trips to Shanghai. I found the room to be in its original decor from the late 80's early... More

I have been staying in this hotel for 7 years, for maybe 3 trips per year, and it needs a few tweaks. Compared to top hotels the staff on reception are pretty poor, and generally quite rude. Elsewhere in the hotel however, the staff are pretty good and attentive, particularly in the lobby bar. Prices are reasonable, general Shanghai prices... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
