A great location, only a 5 minute walk from beautiful parks, temples, shopping and nightlife, so even though the place looks like it hasn't been maintained well I still recommend it to any bargain shopper. Again the only reason I give the rating of poor is strictly on the quality and maintenance of the hotel. Its location is 5 star!

We stayed here on a tour, so we did not book it. The buffet meal was excellent, if you knew how to negotiate it. The hotel could do with some new carpet and other updates, but really was quite comfortable and a pleasant stay.

The room was so small, I kept tripping over our luggage, and it had a slight smell of smoke. This is probably due to the fact that they don't actively monitor the non-smoking areas as much as they do in the U.S. The air conditioning was in the process of getting fixed, so for half our stay, we were hot... There was absolutely no Air Conditioning or air flowing though our hotel room for the ENTIRE stay. With the air being stagnant at 82 degrees Fahrenheit we were extremely uncomfortable. We talked to staff, we talked to managers but nobody was willing to help. Instead, these were the ridiculous responses from various individuals: 1. "It's working you don't know how... More

Dear Ms Lo, First and foremost, please accept my sincere apologies to the unpleasant whereabouts during your stay in our hotel. Registering around 82 degrees Fahrenheit on 2nd & 3rd May, it was uncomfortably warm. Adding more unease, the central air-conditioning was not in full functionality due to detection & debugging. We fully and truly recognize that this is brought... More

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights one week ago. Shanghai was our last stop on our 10 day China tour with Gate1. The night before we stayed at this hotel, we stayed at the Embassador hotel in Xian which was gorgeous. It was a difficult transition to this hotel. There was nothing wrong with this hotel,It just was not... More

The Rendezvous Merry Hotel Shanghai is a tall, newly renovated but still is a little dark and dingy in places. Beware, the elevators doors are dangerous - you have litterly 2 seconds for your party to enter and then the doors slap shut with great force. One elderly lady in our group was struck and it clearly hurt her. My... More

We had a "king" size bed which was actually two doubles together. Even so the room was large enough to accommodate the extra size. There is a desk with chair, hot water pot, refrigerator and easy chair. The room was clean and comfortable if you needed to spend time in. The breakfast area requires some exploration although all bases are... More

My wife and I spent two nights at the Merry Rendezvous Hotel in Shanghai as part of a Gate 1 tour package last week (March 2015). The hotel is a 28 story high-rise hotel that has a distinctly "Western" flavor. We did not require parking, but that did appear to be tight judging from the cramped parking lot in front... More

This hotel was the third and last one on our trip to China with Gate 1 Travel. Excellent choice, Gate 1! The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. There are smoking and not-smoking floors, so you can make a request where you want to stay. The breakfast is on the fifth floor and is very good. Many choices... More

The rooms and quality in this hotel are of high western standards, making it a good choice for business or vacation. Reasonable walk to subway lines (traffic in the area is difficult). There are no health club facilities (pool, sauna, exercise). The breakfast is very good with a lot of choices (western, Chinese, and Japanese).
