This review is for the "new" wing of the hotel, which is tucked away in the back, as opposed to the "old" wing, which actually exudes the old Shanghai. Not much to rave about, other than that the rate is super low for being so centrally located. I was greeted by an escort business card on the floor, the moment... More

This is an older hotel and it looks it. It resembles an older apartment building. It does not have a grand feel like some older hotels but it is not totally devoid of charm. The rooms are large compared to other 4 star Chinese Hotels, but the furniture & carpeting is worn & weathered. The location is good with lots... More

I was directed to stay at the Jing An Hotel by my Shanghai hosts, who frequently commented on how historic and unique it is. Compared to the next door Hilton, as well as the dozens of western chain properties all around central Shanghai, that was certainly true. The building dates from the early 1930's, designed in a pseudo-Spanish style. The... More

This is an older western style hotel from the 20s/30s in the French Concession area of Shanghai... It has a great location and a bit charming! Right where you want to stay.. Our room was clean, spacious, quiet, and comfortable.. Outside of the hotel are several other large chain hotels and several wonderful shopping areas/streets..

I would really give this hotel 2 points, however, I am giving it 3 only because some of the staff is nice. I had to ask for rooms over and over again because of smoke. The rooms or the bathroom were seemingly clean, but there were major issues. The hotel apologized but I had to make a deal and I... More

This hotel needs to be updated. Tired and old feeling. Chinese breakfast buffet with few choices for American tastes. Looks to be a newer hotel of the same name near by. Perhaps this one was the old portion. Stay in the new portion if you have a choice.

I returned to this hotel in May'14 after missing it for many years. Next to its main entrance, hanging a stone plate which stated this building was built by Elliot Hazzard in 1925-1934 and named as HAIG COURT. It is a 9 stories building integrating Spanish and Art Deco styles. It went through quite a major interior renovation to upgrade... More

The hotel is a heritage building and located in between the Hilton Hotel and Shanghai hotel. It is about 7-8 minutes walk from the Jingan Temple subway stop. This stop is just one stop away from Peoples Square and Pedestrian street. The room size was decent and we got a garden facing room. There is a garden in the hotel... More

I notified the hotel that I would be checking in late around 2am and that to keep my room as I was stopping for 9 nights. Guess what I arrive at the hotel at 2am, give them my passport, fill in all the details, takes about 10 minutes then get told, sorry we have no rooms, please go to our... More

We decided that during an 8 days stay we would rather save money on the accommodation to spend more on activities etc. We shouldn't have. We stayed in the old hotel and it was depressing. Firstly the service. I do not expect anyone in china to speak English however I would hope for a certain level of service . The... More

Staying in Jing'an

Neighborhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
