I stayed three nights in the hotel (19/1/2016) and we organised there also a +200 attendants event. My room at the 29th floor was spacious with good internet connection and great bed. Also the workspace in the room was very good and comfortable. Bathroom was very good as well with a good shower (though one morning the water was only... More

We booked 3 rooms on executive floor for 8 days on this 5- star hotel. Let me warn you, because what this looks like and act like they don't deserve too many of these stars The rooms were dirty and the sheets had holes , and we constantly had to ask for glassware and toilet paper The breakfast is a... I actually stay here often for the location and there is nothing really wrong with the hotel. My company has a contract so I get a good rate. The hotel is a little worn, but since it started as a 5 star, it is still quite ok for my tastes. Has swimming pool and decent fitness center. Why good for... More

This hotel is far below to be classified as a 5 start hotel in terms of service and product provided. Besides the lobby being huge and spacious the remaining parts are old and without any taste. The room is very much used out, yellowish marble, windows cannot close properly, door cannot close completely. The towels of this hotel are yellowish... More

Words cannot describe how passionately I feel about this hotel. This is one of the worst hotels ever. This is my second review, and it has taken a major turn for the worse. •Check in takes 30+ minutes, no other hotel in China takes that long. I should have just remained in the check in/ out line for my whole... More

I stayed here last week for 3 nights. Clean, spacious rooms. Central location in French Concession area. Good breakfast - lots of options both Chinese and western. Very busy at 8am so try and go for breakfast either earlier or wait til around 9 when it gets quiet.

Stayed 4 nights in the room at higher floor which is spacious. They have a big desk which is good for working. Free Wifi included. The concierge will try their best to accommodate. Walking distance to the nearest train station (Shan Xi South). The hotel is located at a strategic place where it is surrounded by a lot of restaurants... More

This large city centre hotel offers a good location for exploring the city. Breakfast was a good selection of both western and Chinese foods. Good service, central place in Shanghai French Concession. I'm staying here now 7 years and I'm still positive. Room is clean and comfortable. Negative is the crowded area during breakfast. I certainly can recommend this hotel to everyone!

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
