Just like its huge lobby hall, the hardware are all there but it is poorly maintained. It fulfills all the basic needs: clean bed, hot water, breakfast buffet. However the bed is too soft, shower curtains are all stained, towels smells of cheap detergents, poor breakfast food, insincere staffs. Well that's about it. Summary: poorly maintained ex-4-star hotel

This hotel will get the job done well for you. Is comfortable, is clean, is fine. Noted a lot of Japanese seems like to hang around and stay in this hotel. This hotel is about 5 to 10 mins walk to HuaiHai Lu, which is a pretty nice shanghainese shopping street (an equivalent to London's Oxford street )

Looks impressive from out side, good size bedroom which was clean. Stayed three nights and had a good sleep with no outside noise and a comfortable bed. Buffet breakfast was at 6.30am so there was not a lot of people there and plenty of tables. Good choice of food both hot and cold. Nice view of the city from the... More

Jin Jiang hotel is an old chain in Shanghai and although the hotel looks modern, it is worn out in many places. My stay was at best average. The room looked clean, but the carpet was dingy. The breakfast buffet is strictly ok and gets really full by 8.30. And the room service dumplings and soup I ordered were quite... More

We stayed during the typhoons of July. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Concierge helped call us a taxi so we could get to the Shanghai Museum. Money exchange was easy. The doormen were very attentive! The lobby is pretty and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was large with many options and more choices for breads than we had seen in... More

It is not so close to Xintiandi as it claims. You need to walk at least 20 min to get there. The rooms are old, tre forniture is bad taste. On the bad table there is no reading light. The lobby is impressive but nothing to do with the rooms. I think I will look for something else next time.

Stayed here now maybe 20 times - its my default Shanghai hotel. Part of its attraction is that its on the fringe of the old French Concession area which is great to walk around.Plus every taxi driver, none of whom understand my heavily Australian accented Mandarin, knows it when I say Xin Jin Jiang Binguan, which means New JJ Hotel.... The best part of the hotel is the location within the French Concession on the Puxi side of Shanghai. It is in a very walkable area close to shopping and restaurants but a bit of a distance to most attractions and the central business area. The hotel itself is nice. Had an upgraded corner room that was nice. The lobby... More

I only spent 10 hours at this hotel, so I didn't get to see anything other than my own room, didn't try the food either; but the location is good, it's in the city but not noisy. There are some restaurants, bars on that street, there's a Hong Kong restaurant is really yummy, it's about 3 min walk from the... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
