ideal place for people that like to discover shanghai by foot. In less than half an hour you reach peoples square. I visited this hotel several times during the last years and it is one of the few Chinese hotels that gets better; they keep investing in the hotel. Only down side is Internet connectivity. Hardly works and is not... More

I am in the hotel right now for one night since the reah boutique in zhabei was overbooked. The presentation of the rooms is ok. The bed is very very hard so the sleep was terrible, but still more soft than my inlaws house. The central heating system was turned up way too high to 27-28 degrees. Had to turn... More

The City Hotel is located in a quiet nook off a bustling street of small businesses. It is not located near favorite sightseeing venues such as the Bund. The line 2 of the Metro is about a 20 minute walk in the very upscale shopping district. In order to get to this Metro, you must take a pedestrian crossing over... More

Have visited this hotel 5 times between 2010 and 2013. Excellent catch. You will be really surprised by how central this place is, and how nice the area is too. This hotel is just great for tourism and business. Would definitely come back here.

I totally loved to stay at this hotel. The staff speaks english, shops are nearby, breakfast is delicious, and everything is so clean and well organized. One down side is that they told me that wifi is for 69 RMB. So I though I can use it as much as I want, leading me to Skype for hours. The next... More

Its cheap and convenient. Although the lobby felt too cheap the rooms were surprisingly comfortable and quiet. It is defiantly not the place you want to stay if you come to Shanghai as tourists for the first time. Its good for a business trip when you want to save money. Nothing is walkable from this location besides shopping centers.

Nothing memorable. Most of the staff were courteous. Expect to not have English speakers after hours though. Some rooms have good views-- due to cigarette smoke we asked for room change. The breakfast is pretty good and I think worth paying extra for -- expect that they will continually come to take your tea, plate etc. a bit too much.... More

Nice hotel but not as close to the river and the Bund as I had expected. Room was a good size and comfortable.Bathroom was a little tired but clean and the shower was good. Staff were helpful. We were only here for a day on our way home so didn't use the hotel amenities. No free WIFI but you could... More

We booked a "4-star" room for an admittedly low rate. When we arrived at the front desk, we were greeted by a formal clerk in fluent English who told us the use of wifi would cost us an extra 60RMB per day. We decided to at least stay for 1 night (we had reserved for 4 nights). But when we... More

This is a cheap and cheerful hotel not too far from the tourist mecca of Xin Tian Di in Shanghai. Its unpretentious and extremely good value. Rooms clean, comfortable but a bit on the small side. Its not a 5-star but it doesn't pretend to be and instead of paying a fortune at a higher star hotel this is an... More
