Very luxurious hotel, very close proximity to the Bund, service was excellent. The room was very clean. The bellhop at the entrance will help you take your luggage out of your vehicle, and will hail a cab for you if you need one. The food was a bit pricey however, so I would recommend eating somewhere else.

We stayed at this hotel July 8 and 9 and it is a fine hotel with good breakfast and clean comfortable rooms. The best part is the location. You are one short block from the Bund and only three short blocks from Nanjing Rd East. You cannot find a better hotel for the money. The rooms are clean and neat... More

Braodway Mansion was built 1930, finished 1935 by British Merchants. She was once been tallest in Shanghai for several decade and was 19 foot taller than Park Hotel New York of same age. Just this history is already worthwhile for a visit. This Mansion was occupied by Japanese 1937-45. Then occupied by Americans as well as National Goverment during 1946-1949... More

We spent three nights here. We booked in advance, but got lucky and were able to negotiate an upgrade, upon arrival, to a suite with a view across the bridge to the city beyond. It is a far flasher hotel that I'm used to staying in, even so, I thought the decor was a little dated, everything worked though, so... More

Good hotel, old style, compact rooms, well located near the Garden bridge, the bund, about 600m from Nanjing road. Staff is nice and helpful. Western breakfast is available in the first floor restaurant. Overall, if you can want to enjoy the Puxi side of Shanghai, at a reasonable stay budget, this is the place to go!

Stayed here for couple nights on and off on my business trip. The Hotel is an older hotel but has updated rooms. It is great location with lots of places with in walking distance. The front staff are excellent, Mars the concierge took care of everything we needed before our arrival. Our first room had very hard beds, we asked... More

In a nutshell if you don't have time to read my review, the filthiest most disgusting hotel I have ever walked into. Arrived with a curt blunt reception. Told to leave a 1000 yuan deposit. Not asked or explained, we were told. Curtly told no breakfast. We booked a deluxe city view room none smoking, which was on the expectation... More

The good thing about the hotel is the location, as other reviewers said. However, it could not be rated as 5-star, but 3-star hotel. It really needs renovations and the service is also not good. We had to ask the staff to move us to a new room due to the dirty toilet. It is the first time in all... More

We did have some concerns staying here and there are a number of posts regarding dirty and stained carpets and chairs, so our expectation was a little low. As a result, yes the carpet was a bit tired, it wasnt as bad as we expected so it wasnt an issue for us. The lobby and staff have a very old... More

On my tour of Shanghai we stayed at this hotel. The location is excellent. There is much to see on foot in the area. It is located next to the Bund on the river. Very good views from the rooms on the higher floors. I was fortunate to be placed in a corner room on 15. They did offer a... More

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
