Let's start with positives: the charm of an old hotel with high ceilings and spacious rooms, close to the Bund yet relative quiet and well insulated from street sounds. Now the pain points, and there are many that need urgent fixing. We booked a family room for 4 but at check-in were asked to pay for an extra bed and... More

The hotel feels like one of the tired Victorian hotels in a genteel English spa town but that has a kind of charm. A good position. We swapped bedrooms when we saw our 'Deluxe double' and thought it was rather basic and meanly furnished with a hard bed. The sharp receptionist became more charming when we upgraded to a superior... Stayed here for four nights. I was quite impressed. The service is good and they helpfully directed me to a train ticket shop a few blocks away. Rooms are quaint, spacious, clean. I was on the sixth floor with a decent view of the river. Breakfast is solid with plenty of choice. The daily weather report delivered to your door... More

The Astor House Hotel was in Shanghai since the latter part of the 1800s and was a premier hotel when my family lived there in the 20s-40s, which was the prime reason I decided to stay here. I loved the ambience with the chandeliers, antiques, wood floors and trim. My hotel room was clean and well appointed with water bottles... More

This hotel is in a great location, but the restaurants are pretty bad. The coffee shop at the front of the hotel is expensive and has a poor selection of food and overpriced coffee. The breakfast buffet which may or may not be included in your room price was excellent. The bar is very bad with two pizzas costing almost... More

We stayed at the Astor House Hotel for two nights in March 2015. The hotel room was clean and spacious, but the interior rather outdated. The corridors are very dark and there is an odd old smell to it. Overall, this hotel has a good location just off the Bund but we did not feel completely comfortable.

The staff are friendly. You got a space, nice view with a touch of classy accommodation! Great location, walking distance to " The Bund". The Italian Ice Cream in the cafe inside the hotel is very good! But excellent for the lime flavor ice cream, I recommend it!

We stayed here for five nights and were most impressed by the historic significance of the hotel. Also, its location was the perfect starting point for walking tours of the Bund, Nanjing Road, Fang Bang district, the IFC and the French Concession. The hotel itself is a repository of artifacts associated with the rise of the city as a financial... More

We had a great time at the Astor House Hotel. I knew it was historic, but I was really impressed with both the preservation of the hotel as well as the information about its history that is peppered throughout. We had a nice time walking around and checking out the old photos and plaques. Our room was pleasant, clean and... More

One of the most memorable hotels I have stayed anywhere. It's like taking at trip back in time. Huge, stately rooms totally in original condition. So much history around you which is unique in modern Shanghai. Great location just off the Bund and far more interesting to stay at than your standard modern hotel. Stay somewhere different, you won't regret... More
