The Astor hotel is full of history and it really feels like sleeping in a museum. However, that does mean that if you're looking for a full on luxury experience - this might not be the place for you. Check the room before you agree to stay in it - they're happy to show you what's available in different price... More

Very interesting hotel, well maintained and nicely decorated. The rooms in the upper two floors are very charming and have wood flooring. I stayed in a room that once was occupied by Charles Chaplin, it has the old charm with modern amenities in a large bathroom. The ballroom, very sophisticated, is now used for breakfast. Location is very good in... More

Staff, location and breakfast excellent. Room large but dated/tired. Biggest problem was noise right through the night. When in Shanghai go for a very high room, preferably in a pedestrianised location like the Nanjing Road.

just over the Garden Bridge and opposite the Russian Consulate, this hotel is a way to connect with old Shanghai. great breakfasts with so much choice and really spacious rooms. It is a bit faded glory but so full of character. its a very popular place for wedding receptions which gives you another insight into local life. All the staff... More

The hotel was well situated near the Bund, although there is no metro near by most things are within easy walking distance. The hotel itself is Shanghai`s first stock exchange, so lots of history and a few artefacts on display which were interesting to see and read about. There is a cosy bar and breakfast is served in the ballroom,... More

I will not dwell on the obvious which is that it is historically important in Shanghai. As a place to stay it does not possibly have all the slick conveniences of other modern hotels but I would stay here anyday in preference to others. The location is superb- just off the Bund, the hotel staff helpful and the Richard Cafe... More

Astor House Hotel is located at an absolutely fabulous location, right on The Bund and is also a part of many a tour, hence a thumbs up for that ! It has a long history and you can almost feel the history in the air when you walk around this hotel. The look and feel of the hotel is interesting... More

I did not stay at this hotel, but dined with a customer at Richard's Restaurant & Bar in the Astor House Hotel. This ancient and interesting hotel has a fascinating history, but the glamour of the place has faded to the point of invisibility. While the location on the Bund is great, the restaurant is smallish, brightly lit; almost shrill.... More

We were so glad we stayed at this place:it was definitely faded elegance of a bygone era (the downstairs breakfast room was where tea dances were held in the 30s replete with chandeliers, balconies and dance floor) but mainly its location at the end of the Bund is so convenient. We got upgraded to an executive room (the celebrity room... More

We sent a number of emails before arrival requesting an airport pick up to the hotel. It took until the very day of arrival and the 8th email before a response came that they couldn't arrange that for us - even though smaller youth hostels in China had easily organised it for us before. We arrived at midnight tired from... More
