I arrived at Central Hotel after a particularly rough trip, and Central Hotel was all I could have asked for. The front-desk staff was professional and pleasant, and although I arrived early, quickly had me checked into a spacious room (bedroom, plus separate work area) with floor-to-ceiling windows. A small thing, but after three weeks on typically hard, flat mattresses,... More

Cozy room, good entertainment system, all amenities in place. Breakfast options were not so good for European taste and they allowed to smoke in breakfast area, this was disgusting. Staff can understand English. Wifi was weak.

Have stayed at tis hotel numerous times over the years. The hotel has been renovated a few years back with updated furnishing and fixtures. I have 2 issues with the rooms, the windows whistled when it's windy out. They have not fixed the seals after all this years. The newer fixture in the shower with temperature balancing valves are very slow... More

We stayed here as part of a stop over from New Zealand. The location is almost right on Nanjing Road east which is very busy both day and night. Very early in the morning you can see people doing tai chi (sp). Carry on down this road to get to the bund. (a 15 minute walk) If you walk in... More

No complaints about this hotel. Helpful English-speaking front staff, very clean, great furnishings, high end bathroom with rain shower. The location is the best part of this hotel; it is less than a block away from the Nanjing pedestrian street. This makes the Bund, the subway and the People's square all within a 15 minute walk at the most.

The property is clean and well-positioned in the city, especially for tourist. Only a short hop from the Bund and 100 feet away from the Nanjing Pedestrian Street. Comfortable rooms, solid housekeeping, helpful staff with decent grasp of English language, and a delicious (and extensive) breakfast buffet with both Western and traditional Chinese cuisine. Spa was also great, took advantage... More

I stayed in this hotel for two days in Sep/2014 , i enjoyed the acceptable food and hospitality of staff and also the location which was close to many shops ,etc. I encountedred men and women on the streets on many occassions showing images of half nude girls offering different services .my advice is to stay firm and cut them... As others have mentioned, the location is outstanding, right next to the shopping and restaurants of Nanjing East Road and two local Metro stations. My stay here was quite good. The staff were reasonably courteous and spoke reasonable English. Do not expect them to go over and above to help you out. My room was on a higher floor and... More

Major point has to be noted for this hotel is that it is just in the middle of the city. It is just one minute walking to Nanjing road street which is heart of Shanghai with its bars, cafes, shopping places and so on and easy access to Bund area where you can have a Shanghai photo together with river... Initially I was apprehensive about booking this hotel. I had read mixed reviews that lead me to assume: 1. The Central Hotel is the poorer relation to the Grand Central Hotel next door 2. Facilities and decor are poor or dated 3. They offer only standard no-nonsense Chinese service My experience was therefore confusing and very surprising... Upon approach, we... More
