We stayed here for 3 nights in May 2012 as part of a Viking River Cruise tour. The hotel itself is everything you would expect a 5 star Ritz Carlton to be, as far as the rooms and amenities are concerned. If all you see is this hotel, you have not seen Shanghai. Very comfortable and great for a business trip but no Asian flavor. Staff was very business-like. The concierge was not very helpful - not typical for a Ritz. Location in high end shopping area... comfortable but sterile. More

Nice place and rooms are well maintained despite age. Swimming pool is soso and not so fun for kids. Nice bar to have a drink and listen to the band. Good location and right in the midst. More

I was glad that we chose the Portman Ritz-Carlton. This was our first trip to Shanghai, staying at the Ritz makes a lot of difference.
