Every time I've come to Shanghai, I've stayed at the Reagal. I was able to book a special rate of $110 per night including breakfast and Internet. Rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There is also a metro line conveniently located near the hotel (3 or 4 blocks) walking. As I mentioned breakfast was included... Excellent hotel in a great location. On Hengshang Lu near to xiujahua and in the beautiful French Concession area of Shanghai. Walking in either direction to shopping, boutique restaurants and beautiful tree lined streets. Great service, excellent rooms !!!! Excellent price.

After being in Regal for 3 years, now the Service and "new" regularities of Hotel did not satisfy me at all. Next stay for the next years not in Regal. Sorry to rate it like that, but I didn't feel home anymore....

This property is probably not one of the most luxurious one in Shanghai, but it got everything for me what I needed. Good service, clean rooms and nice staff attendance. The hotel is located in a livid neighborhood with many restaurants and bars. Ask for a renovated room at check in!

I have stayed at the Regal International for many times, however last time in June it was the first time I enjoyed the Fragnance Restaurant on the 2nd floor. The chef is from Hong Kong and he delighted me and my guests with several truly amazing Chinese and Hong Kong style dishes. Room and service were good as always.

Rooms are very clean with lots of amenities like robes, bottled water, fridges, tooth brushes and sewing kits. We had a room on 18th floor and it was very quiet. Don't bother getting the breakfast in the lobby. Way too expensive and the continental breakfast with room service easily fed two. Great pool and beautiful lobby. Terrific location. Only cons... The food served at the cafe was average. There are flies seen around the café, at least around the place I seated. The staff were busy in their conversation. The room size is alright for me. The bell boy at the entrance was not able to assist when asked for direction. Outside the hotel is a busy road. Able to... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
