This 1930s era hotel -- but much refurbished since then -- turned out to be exactly what my wife and I were looking for! In a private courtyard off Fenyang road, this handsome but understated hotel was an oasis in a city dominated by anonymous high rise everythings! The front desk speaks limited but adequate english, but hey, this is Shanghai!... More

It was a beautiful hotel with a large garden area. The hotel is close to everything but felt like a peaceful retreat in the heart of Shanghai. We were pleasantly surprised at how charming it is. The historic Spanish building next to the main hotel has been converted to a restaurant had some amazing architectural details. They did such a... More

My husband and I enjoyed our seven day stay in this hotel very much. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the location in the French Concession was hard to beat. The garden setting and the lack of street noise was quite unique and a pleasure to come "home" to after a day of sightseeing. The internet does require a... More

The Fenyang Garden Hotel is a garden oasis within the hustle and bustle of Shanghai's busy streets. It is quiet, clean and elegant (albeit a bit dated), with traditional decor and large, spacious rooms. The location is ideal if proximity to the main tourist sights is not a priority: walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and nightlife, including Huaihai Lu, Dongping... More

We recently stayed a third time at this boutique hotel. Comparing to previous stays, there were some maintenance issues, in particular, the fluctuating shower pressures. While the water was hot, the water pressure was not as good. The bathroom sink tap seemed to have the same pressure problem. A more irking issue is the lack of wifi in hotel rooms,... More

Ok... it is no longer a secret. The Fenyang Garden Hotel is excellent. This hotel is in a great location with lots of little restaurants and shops on the doorstep. The rooms are excellent, the grounds are lovely and the service low key but pleasant and friendly. It is an oasis in Shanghai. The only thing that let's it down... More

This hotel has many good features and the room rate (breakfast included) at Y900/night was reasonable at the time of my stay (12 days in Jul 2013). Situated right opposite the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the hotel is about 10 minutes' walk from the shopping precinct of Huaihai Road and metro stations (even faster if one uses the shortcuts through... We chose to stay in the Fenyang Garden at the end of a trip around China and North Korea, and it was the most expensive one of the 6 hotels we stayed in but offered the least. The location is good - Shanghai is a spread out city so it's not the kind of place you can walk around and... More

The hotel was clean, modern, and set up for foreign (USA) visitors. The service at the front desk was excellent. The night shift helped me one night with some computer problems - even texting a friend, who came and helped out!! I couldn't have thanked them enough - they were not only helpful but gracious and patient the whole time... More

I stayed here for 5 days during the bulk of my trip in Shanghai and this hotel was definitely the best choice amongst the others around the South Shanxi Station area. The atmosphere of the hotel grounds is peaceful and relaxing. The hotel lobby is non-smoking and despite staying in a smoking room. There was no lingering smell in the... More
