We had a pleasant two night stay in the hotel. The decoration of the lobby and the restaurant with it's different stylish, interesting furnituries gives a contemporary atmosphere. Our room was clean but furnished without any style at all or decoration. The floor was linoleum peeling of some places. The window looked into the coridor that made the room noisy and... More

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Positives: Very well located, attentive staff. sheets and towels are clean comfortable and well smelling. Negatives: Poor maintenance, no comfort, neglected, breakfast horrible. The rooms are small, cleaning is poor. I would not recommend to anyone.

Sorry that you did not have good experience last time. We are located right on the bund, thus rooms are small. Our cleaning ladies are trained on a weekly basis to ensure each room is thoroughly and carefully cleaned. We now have a new French Food and Beverage manager taking care of the breakfast and all day meal in the... More

First of all: the hotel is now called THE EIGHT ART HOTEL. I spend in this hotel on a Sunday night during a short trip to Shanghai. What I liked: 1. The location. Walking distance to the Bund and Nanjing Road. 2. The lobby / entrance and bar area are really art focused and boutique style. The rooms however have... More

I stayed there for over 2 weeks in Shanghai. Now named The Eight Art Hotel, it seems to have been recently renovated. It looks very contemporary, with a nice restaurant, bar and cafe on the first floor. Despite not all the staff speak English, they were still able to help me with my questions and concerns. They made my arrival... More

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in mid July and the location was fantastic. Also the room was clean and the bathroom good. However the rooftop bar no longer was working-it would have been a fantastic place for a drink-and management was haphazard. In fact, when we arrived, at first they denied any knowledge of our booking through... More

The owners are extremely friendly and nice. Most of the employees speak very good English. The faculty are very warming and more then happy to help with any issues. The places just went through renovations and yet i did not see any mess around showing that they were still undergoing the process. They are very neat and tidy. The owner... More

Our group leader had made reservations at a terrible hotel. We found Zero Page Hotel at midnight. When the owners heard about our situation, they let us check in immediatly. We could not have asked for more accomidating people. We were all given rooms on the same floor for the first time on our trip. The hotel was clean, well... More

Last minute choice but it should have been our first choice. Cleanliness, WiFi and customer service was great. Located in the bund close to everything, shopping, boat rides and late night spots all walking distance. Staff very helpful and the price is right…I will definitely visit again..

Stayed here four times since late 2011, every time has been impressive. Breakfast is lame, but everything else has been very good. Roof top bar is friendly too, and a decent place to hang out. Am traveling to Shanghai again this weekend, and the Captain's Lu An road is my first choice for accommodation. Easy for shopping, easy for transport,... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
