We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Shanghai. The owner, Miranda, was very helpful and offered tips and advice on things to do. The breakfast was very good and she gave us several options to choose from. The B&B is very close to a subway station (although Uber worked great too) and on a very quiet... More

I knew the chocolate room would be the one for me given how much of a lover of chocolate I am in real life. As a solo traveler, it ended up being the perfect type of room for me to stay in. Miranda was a great host, and helped me book train tickets for a day trip outside of the... More

What it is - A wonderful Art Deco property, with great staff, super breakfast, in a vibrant lively area (magic street food just on the corner and a great market just up the street), close to the French Concession sites and the Metro. What it is not - Spacious, especially quiet, luxurious (rather, comfortable) or central. Come to this property... More

This is not a B&B, it is a backpacker hostel. No welcome upon arrival, no help carrying or bags up 3 flight, nowhere to open our bags and no where to unpack. There are stains on some of the bedding, the room was extremely cold and there is only one operable plug in the room. This would be fine at... More

Dear reviewer, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy the stay. Normally I greet each guest myself so that I could help guests to settle down and provide the information they may need. In late March I was away for a few days on a trip to Yunnan in south-west of China, this might be the time of your stay. I... More

We had a really wonderful time in this lovely B&B - it's cute, pretty (albeit somewhat small), and conveniently located in the French Concession area, which is our favorite area in Shanghai. There are plenty of eateries near the B&B, but I was absolutely fond of the Chinese breakfast offered by Magnolia - such generous portions and so tasty! I... More

Fantastic and cozy location, near the subway, restaurants, and shopping. Miranda was great, as was the housekeeper (whose name I can't recall). New, clean furnishings, plus a great breakfast. We would gladly return.

Magnolia was the right choice for my Shanghai trip. The location in the French Concession was great, it is a place with character and has its own charm, it is very different from the rest of Shanghai. It is a residential area, so you feel that you are part of a community, we really liked the small shops and the... More

There are plenty of great hotels in Shanghai that will offer you immaculate rooms, great views and all mod cons - no different from most cities in the world. What they don't give you is a sense of being part of the local neighborhood. Magnolia delivers this in spades. It is a typical four-storey house in a typical street in... More

We - self, husband, daughter - stayed here for three nights and it was great. Miranda's personal attention to our needs and interests made us feel at home, the rooms were comfortable and much more fun than anonymous hotel rooms. Walking up the staircase with suitcases was a bit of a workout, but part of the feel of the place.... More

Absolutely wonderful property that was situated within walking distances of every bar and restuaant that was recommended to us by friends. Colin was incredibly helpful even though we arrived two hours late. Would highly recommend this property. The only downside is that there was no storage space fo clothes, so if you are planning on staying a long time it... More
