Pros: Minutes away from the nearest subway. Free wifi. Free beverages and minibar. Walking distance to Yu Gardens. Cons: Reception staff not very helpful/ friendly on directions and suggestions on places-of-interests. Breakfast ends too early at 9.30am on weekdays. Despite the cons, still very good value. Might consider returning for a second stay if I happen to be in Shanghai.

This is a small hotel in a fantastic location in the middle of Shanghai. The rooms are extremely well furnished and you can feel that care and attention has been paid on each room individually. rather than having a generic feel to the place (as with other 'boutique' hotels in China), this place actually feels small, cozy and welcoming. Care... More

Quietish area .Quirky traditional rooms, a nice mix of old and modern. No lift so the upper rooms wouldn't be accessible to anyone with mobility problems. Hardly any English spoken so if our guide hadn't been with us at book in we wouldn't have had a clue about breakfast time or other information. Breakfast itself was appalling, there was no... More

I will be back, great Shanghai neighborhood. Even a Starbucks couple blocks away. Restaurants, bars, shopping abound. My room is on third floor, interior is old china while bathroom is very well updated. Staff is very helpful, they do not speak english so need to make communication simple.

On the positive side, good central location (10/15min to subway but very easy with taxi), the decoration was quite traditional and original. On the negative side: breakfast only between 8-9 and very bad so forget about it. The personal was not very friendly and not that helpful. 50% of the time there is noone at the reception. Finally, it was... More

Good for those familiar with Shanghai and just need a place to stay for a few days. Expected more from all the positive reviews but was highly disappointed. Most of the staff are "cold" and unwelcoming. Definitely not worth the price! Could have stayed somewhere nicer, more comfortable, and more hospitable for same amount. Very limited breakfast (basically one sandwich)... More

If you already know the French Concession well, have no fears of getting yourself around in Shanghai, and like the idea of staying in an old place with only 6 or so rooms, then this is the hotel for you. It's a pearl tucked away on Yongjia Lu, just near the Xiangyang Lu intersection. If want a hotel with concierge... More

I stumbled upon this hotel while reading a review for hotels in Shanghai. I wanted something quiet and pleasant in the French Concession neighborhood. I found it! The Ke TangJian hotel was so cute. First, I had booked the attic single room and it was a loft room- adorable. However, I could not cool the room down enough so I... More

The building only houses about 6 or so rooms therefore you are given a code to get in and out of the hotel to input on outside keypad. The hotel itself is a tiny lobby and the stairs, with a nice painted wall with a door that leads you to the restaurant. You go up the stairs and you start... More

I stayed at the Ketangjian for over three weeks and had a thouroughly enjoyable stay, as did my colleagues who were there for some of the time. The staff are very friendly and helpfull and the resturant serves the best Thai food I have tasted in Shanghai. The location is perfect for walking and exploring the French Concession District
