Recently renovated rooms but the bathroom has a problem with poor drainage. The smell was extremely bad! The room itself had storage space plus a kettle. Air con worked well. Bed was reasonably comfortable. WiFi just about loaded pages but you have to wait a while. Location is very good for connecting to the train station and the main areas... More

Ordered a single room and was guided to the 4th floor. It looked really nice and recently renovated up there - unfortunately the guy that guided me to my room was wrong and accidentially directed my to 4th floor - my room was situated in the second floor. Elevator dor opened and immediately I smelled a pungent stench. Also the... More

After reading the reviews on this place, my partner and I stayed in a private double room on the newly renovated 4th floor. Granted the room was a bit small like other reviews say, but for hostel standard this place was exceptional. It had hotel quality cleanliness, proper towels, simple but stylish decor, and a good comfortable bed. Plus great... More

Great location at walking distance to everything worth seeing. In case you wish to take the metro to spare some walking time, you have a metro entrance within less than 4 min walking. The staff is great, really friendly, speaks fair English and is willing to give you advice or tips on anything if you ask them. The room is... More

Hostel was great. Spacious and clean rooms. Good staff. Great location (5 main walk to peoples square!) Big tip- eat at the restaurant down stairs. Order the rice meals on the smaller menu. Double cooked pork, kung pao chicken or whatever. Is amazingly tasty and literally costs less than 3USD. zomg

I arrived at Hongqiao (west Shanghai) train station and was heading to Pudong Airport (east) and had one afternoon/night. It is a few hundred metres from the metro, and very central. I got the tube for 45mins from Hongqiao and then an hour and a quarter to PVG. Its central enough to walk everywhere. In about 6 hours I was... More

Beds are comfortable, shower's hot, towels are changed regularly, plenty of space to dump bags, safe-to-drink water delivered free of charge. The real value comes from the location. Countless restaurants at the doorstep, most of them English-friendly, including the restaurant within the hostel building itself. Delicious food, attractions, convenience stores and a metro station all within walking distance in a... More

The rooms are really basic, you should not expect too much. The dorms are not in the best state (bed lights are broken, lockers are a little broken..). Mattresses are very thin and hard, but for a few nights it should work. We changed to a doubledeluxe bed for new years eve. The room was nice with a big bathroom.... More

I liked the Phoenix best out of all the 3 Hostels in Shanghai. Room was larger w in room bathroom/shower. Rooftop bar was excellent w excellent bartenders/ hosts. There was a great restaurant on the ground floor. The hostel occupied 3 or so floors above. There were plenty of other restaurants. close to metro, close to the Shanghai Museum, and... More
