The room is plain and scruffy. There is no fridge, the bed is hard and the air conditioner doesn't work, meaning we are cold. But the view is fantastic and for a couple of nights makes up for everything else. The location is good to walk to local attractions.

The room was very, very simple a little bit old and dirty and overpriced. Next time Shanghai, I would pay more and you get much better Deals. The Breakfast more suitable for Chinese, but a Toast with Jam and a hot coffee, that's enough. The Location is good , close to the Bund and a 10 Minute walk to the Metro.... More

A cheaper alternative to access city views. Room is clean, well-lit. The only thing I hate is the quality of bed which is way too firm for me that resulted in low sleep quality. There's internet cable but no Wifi access in the room. Never tasted their breakfast as the restaurant itself didn't look appealing to me. Overall, it has... More

A hotel for budget travelers, it is next to the Hyatt on the Bund and also a 5 minute walk to the Waibaidu Bridge and the Bund. A 10 minute walk to Nanjing Road will also bring you to the nearest Metro station. The room's size was sufficient and clean, and the only complaint I have is the standing shower... More

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
