This hotel is good for its location but nothing else. Bad service, bad English, horror story lightning in the whole hotel, uncomfortable beds but big rooms and great location!! If I would go to Shanghai again with the same budget I would stay at this hotel.

On arrival no bellboy to help with cases. Entered room. Telephone & fridge not working. Phone was repaired but no fridge at all during 4 night stay. Beds rock hard. Very little English in lobby. No coffee cups or satchels. Only great point was the location. Very close to the bund & Nanjing road. Overcharged me $50,, for stay. I... More

Traveled solo and was in Shanghai for a 1 night layover. Decent location 2-3 blocks off bund. I walked to several restaurants. Decent sized rooms and bathrooms considering most in Asia are tiny. Staff spoke broken English. I recommend this hotel for LOW maintenance travelers looking for a decent budget hotel on the bund. FYI *cabs drivers in Shanghai do... More

My wife and I stayed at this hotel while on a visit to our son in China. It was adequate but on our return trip to Shanghai we opted for the Astor House Hotel and the difference was stunning, well worth the little extra to stay at the Astor House. Baron's needed some serious mold control in the shower but... More

Check carefully on the dates on these reviews--- the newer they are, the worse they get. The management must have changed. The location of this hotel is great, near the Bund. The breakfast is terrible-- very few items, and extremely unappetizing presentation. Stained table clothes. You can make yourself some white toast. They have an unheated bowl of fried eggs... More

Near to visit place. But the hotel, is hidden hard to look from main road. Furthermore the best is the bed very comfortable. The breakfast cant acceptable for us and not much variety food. Lastly some of the reception are not friendly, during check-in the reception are not friendly at all. So luck on you guys. :). Ill give 3.5star... More

I guess it's all about expectations... this property didn't not meet ours. It started at the checking, where they tried to photocopy our passports. Their computer just did not work, so they were trying and trying and trying while we were waiting in the lobby to get our keys. They gave up after ~30min, so our passports were never photocopied.... This is a good hotel for Asia. The location is almost on the bund close to Nanjing. Rooms are nicely designed and large, beds are somewhat stiff. The staff is good, they speak some english, enough to get you checked in. The hotel might be hard to find as there is only a sign on the road, the hotel is... More

Average hotel but comfortable stay. Check in process was smooth and the staffs were friendly. Location is superb as it is only a short walking distance to Huangpu and Nanjing East Road. Lighting was a bit dark, which I supposed makes the hotel looks a bit gloom. Overall, a good hotel for short duration stay.

The hotel is very clean but can be quite hard to find. The staff can speak fairly good english (at least one of them can speak english). What makes me happy is the location which is near the bund with 5 minutes walk from the bund. Pedestrian shopping street, Nanjing east, and yuyuan garden are also within walking range which... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
