I always book flights and hotel on hipmunk.com due to extreme convenience (try it!). This time my host, SJTU, booked the hotel. It is a very clean and comfortable setting with only a couple of drawbacks for me. First, the bed is very firm, so this is hard on a side sleeper like myself. Second, the dinner menu has no... More

I stayed here twice on business for a few nights. There's nothing wrong with the place, though a bit oldish maybe, smoking everywhere and not too much of restaurants and entertainment, but rooms and service are great and the price is very low.

Located next to Zhao Jia Bang MRT and 24hours 7/11 and family mart, it is very convenient for me especially when my office is just at the next building. Great in-room amenities, sewing kits, weighing scales, shoe polish cloths and such. Service is average, gym facilities is a little dated and quite limited, have been there about 4 times for... More

From the first minute with the front desk staff who was talking to each other instead of taking care of customers to the discovery of bugs on the bedroom floor, this hotel was very disappointing. The lobby has a strong smell of cigarette, the room where too warm and we couldn’t control the AC. In short, not a place that... More

We had a room on the 19th floor (18th is the nonsmoking floor but we didn't know that when we checked in - didn't feel like moving and rarely smelled smoke so we were fine). I had meetings at the nearby university (who booked the room for us) and the location next to the metro was wonderful for my spouse... More

I decided I wanted to stay in a nice hotel while I was in China, this hotel definitely fit the bill. It is very well maintained (albeit a little old). Well situated right next to a subway/metro station and easy to find. Just a caution to foreign tourists In China - you are a target for scammers. I got scammed... More

Good decent hotel. Good rooms- Bathtub/shower. Comparable to USA Marriott hotels. Friendly staff. Good breakfast buffet. Ate lunch and dinner also in this hotel. Good food and good service. Good taxi service. Free wi-fi and 110V in the bathroom.

The Pine City Hotel is an excellent, excellent value for your money. The hotel is located right next to a metro station, there are also hotels and a supermarket within walking distance of the hotel as well as a starbucks and a 7-11. The hotel staff was courteous, I had one incident that was a challenge related to the bell... More

If you ask my opinions i will ask you to find alternatives. No smiling faces on the counter service staff who will take long time to check in .Counter service team ignore the service need of customers , criticized previous customer in front of me. I expect more service quality and profession but disoppinted all... More

This hotel was just perfect! Our suite was large and with great view. Room service was very good as well! we stayed in the 19th floor. We would definitely stay here again! The metro station was right next to the hotel! Great, great , great stay! The only thing I didn't like: they didn't have WiFi.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
