My girlfriend Kate and I came to Shanghai to visit some friends. Unfortunately, our friends didn't have room in their apartment and recommended L'otel to us. When we arrived late in the evening the staff was very courteous and understanding. The room they gave us was a loft with a small kitchen and seating area. I loved how the upstairs... More

After staying at a number of hotels in China L'otel is clearly the one I like the best, and we plan on returning her when we come back to China. We stayed there a full month after touring China. L'otel is by far the cleanest hotel. I wouldn't judge L'otel by Chinese-hotel standards of cleanliness, I would judge it by... More

Our last stop before we flew home. The perfect place for weary travellers, this hotel was private, quiet, ecofriendly, with warm, helpful and clean staff. There was a tiny garden space, even with 2 peacocks to liven up tired guests! Breakfast here was the best we had during our fortnights stay in China. Plentiful, a choice of eggs, toast and... More

The hotel is beautiful, clean, very green and nature inspired. Breakfast was excellent and hotel owners were very polite and always keen to help. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone, regardless of whether you are traveling for business or tourism.

The Lotel Hotel is an exceptionally clean, green hotel. The hotel owners Kenneth and Kim Yeh will do anything in their power to make your stay comfortable. The buffet breakfast includes both American and Chinese dishes and is delicious. The hotel has excellent safety features including security staff and electronic building access only. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms... More

As well as being only a short walk away from the tube lines 1 and 3, this hotel was very quet, providing its own peace and tranquility both inside and outside of the building (the peacock in the garden was a surprising site). I stayed here for four nights in September 2013 while lecturing at a nearby university and would... More

First, very bad service... I arrived at lunch time and the restaurant was closed. And yes, I was starving cause the location is the WORST ever... there's nothing around!! The girl in the frontdesk barely speaks English. They opened my room while showering right after I got some minutes to chill out, around 3 pm... What an odd time to... More

Although a 10 minute walk from the Shanghai south rail/metro station the location had little else going for it. There were very few restaurants close by. To get to the Bund etc it took some time on the metro. Room was clean and had everything we needed and was good for the price, however when you get a balcony room... More

L'otel opened its doors in late 2008 as Shanghai's first totally non-smoking hotel, and one of the first to seriously pursue green living. It was the first in Shanghai to incorporate live plant walls, that not only improve air quality but are extremely easy on the eyes. It boasts a garden that is organically fertilized, MSG free food, energy saving LED light bulbs, hand ground soy-bean milk for breakfast, Simmons dual coil beds and even Tempurpedic pillows, proving you don't need to spend much or look far to find this hidden gem tucked away in the hustle and bustle of central Shanghai.
