This hostel is probably the worst I have ever stayed in. The only good thing is the location, which is really good and central to everything in Shanghai. We had booked male dorm and female dorm and when we arrived we were told that there were no more room in the female dorm. So our only option was to stay... More

Pros: Great central location, that can easily reach both the Bund and the French concession by foot. Cons: -Staff seemed indifferent to us, both in the lobby and the bar, I suspect and hope this is more to do with being shy around English than genuine rudeness. They couldn't offer much tourist advice either. -Unclean and smelly rooms with dirty towels.... Drab, lacks hostelling atmosphere, rooms and toilets not cleaned regularly. Hot water morning and evening only. Dominated by longstayers. No sign of any managers with everything left to young staff. No signs prohibiting smoking. Hot water morning and evening only. Many better hostels in Shanghai

The overall accommodation is good except for the housekeeping services. I was staying in a private single room. The trash was not taken out as well as the bin in the bathroom. Sometimes they didn even change out the towels. I think that should be improved.

Over priced for a hostel of it's "quality". Renovations and construction noise from neighbouring buildings begin before 7 AM and continue nearly constantly for at least the next 12 hours. The hot water is stated as being 24 hours but unfortunately they don't say these hours are consecutive. After they start up the water heater it takes about another hour... More

great location, close to the metro. Near the hostel there are shops, restaurants and bars. The Bund, People Squiare and Yu Yuan Garden are within walking distance. The hostel is above the bazaar / market hall. From early morning you can hear the noise from the street. Because of the bazaar is also a bad smell in the hostel (smells... More

Perfect location, most things walkable and otherwise you can take the taxi or the subway. The bund is a 25 minutes walk so that's okay! There is a supermarket in the street, very nice. They also have a shared fridge. The only bad thing was if you are sleeping in the dorm, do not sleep next to the lockers because... More

Mingtown People Square hostel is a very nice place to stay. It is close to downtown and the hostel is warm, clean and cheap. The beds are very soft ind the private rooms, and you can take a hot shower before 12 a.m. and after 5 p.m.! You can also eat at the hostel for between 20-28 RMB pr. meal... More

Bar was cool but didn't seem very popular. They have a mini pool table but it's broken. Manager was not friendly. However, the rest of the staff was flirtatious and full of smiles but not helpful. Really seemed to be bothered by simple requests. They have a washing machine but no detergent for sale. When we arrived the air-con didn't... More

For all you Brits needing an M&S fix, this hostel is very close to one of it's Shanghai branches which has a small food hall and excellent cafe. The hostel is also close to metro lines 1, 2, 8 and 10. Good if you are coming west from Hongqiao airport or railway station or east from Pudong. The beds are... More
