This Hotel I have been before and got a reasonable room for the money. this time I booked in internet (agoda.de) and got a reasonable price. However the room was old, quite shabby. You don't feel fine and clean. Window very small. Asking for the reason we got answer, that because of the low price we got the cheapest room.... More

For that money (I was bit late so paid 280, but rooms are available for approx 200) hotel has excellent location and sufficient quality. Rooms are clean (though you can smell stale cigarettes) and spacious - I stayed in queen bed facing backyard. Would not mind having bigger window. They have good quality shower. But of course it is not... More

It was during the Tomb Sweeping Festival and I accidentally booked the wrong night for a different hostel. These guys accepted us no problem. It was expensive (I think) around 400RMB a night for two beds, but the room was clean (despite a few insects) and really convenient. I can't give a really good review because we stayed one night... Near the French concession and most of Shanghai's bars and clubs so if that is a priority this is a really good choice. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are new so there is all the necessities The rooms are very small but if you are close to the french concession there is no point in spending time in... More

This is for all the budget minded folks out there. For about 200 RMB you can book an inexpensive clean room at the Hanting. It is located in an old French district of Shanghai with plenty of quaint and charming shops up and down the main street and side streets. The price includes a full Chinese breakfast with all the... We stayed in this hotel because we wanted to see the historical French Concession area of Shanghai. The rates were very reasonable. The room was small but very clean and the bathroom and shower were very modern. The staff does not speak much English but they are helpful and polite. It is close to lovely parks, historic sights, and shopping.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
