Going to Levuka my mind was set on staying at the Royal: the atmosphere, the history, the character... Well, it's all there, when you step through the door you're transported into the past. A bit too literally so. The bed and the mattress in my room were probably authentic. Not a bad thing to say about a bed, but a... More

We liked the atmosphere. It feels like you have been in a time machine: old photo’s from the hotel, furniture from the past. Really nice. Rooms in the hotel are basic (but so is the price). We didn’t like the absence of service. If you want something like breakfast, drinks in the evening, laundry or paying the bill, most of... More

The Royal is a funky, rambling, old hotel - a real classic. The rooms are pretty basic, as is the service, but you just don't find throw back spots like this much any more. The prices are great, so you really can't expect much on the swank side. I'd definitely recommend this place and Levuka just for the experience.

Levuka is wonderfully rich in history with so many friendly and helpful people. The Royal Hotel is a real throw back to another age and full of interesting objects and stories but with a modern internet cafe nevertheless! It's a real must if you want an experience to remember though when we spoke to the Homestay folks they were delightful... More

I have stayed here three times and it's charming beyond belief. The hotel is a beautiful old wooden building, it's like stepping back in time as virtually nothing has changed since it was constructed more than a century ago. There is not another hotel in Fiji like this (I lived there for two years so I know!) and I can... More

The Royal Hotel is said to be the oldest hotel in Fiji, and it looks like a piece of history. I stayed in the main hotel, in a double "colonial" room in the back, with a wrap-around veranda overlooking the football field and the lush hills beyond. I liked the way my room looked like something out of the 1920s... More

You know the feeling you get when you’ve overstayed your welcome at someone’s house, and everyone is polite and pleasant about things but it’s very clear that it would be so nice if you weren’t there? That’s the feeling we got at the Royal Hotel from check-in onwards. Like Fawlty Towers (but without the entertainment value) it exists apart from,... More

The Royal is definitely rough around the edges, but is a real experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed in the family room, which was spacious with two verandas. Nice breezes from the mountain side of the hotel.

Royal Hotel is Levuka is the oldest hotel on the island and has a charm straight out of a Hemmingway novel. We stayed in one of the cabins and had 2 rooms, a kitchenette, wrap around balcony. It was basic, but clean and comfortable (although a little noisy due to road noise). The main hotel is really charming with various... More
