We had the room at the end of the first floor, it was big and had a wonderful lodgia with several chairs and tables. THe room also had two single beds and one double bed, all with moskito nets. The breakfast is simple and the lady who served it was kind of special, we nicknamed her slow mo. The hotel... More

I have stayed in many resorts and hotels throughout in Fiji, i must say that the staff are friendly and are always willing to go the extra mile to make you feel like you are apart of their family. i loved the breakfasts in the morning and the homemade jams. The gardens surrounding the hotel and accommodation are just marvellous... More

Levuka is a small town and the location of the Royal Hotel is excellent as it is walking distance to basically everything in Levuka. I stayed in one of their individual cottages and found it to be very peaceful and spacious. the cottage had hot water and air con as well. they do serve free basic breakfast in the morning... More

We had a very nice stay at this old hotel in the old town. We didn't stay in the old, original part of the hotel but rather in a separate cottage. It was large and comfortable. No problems. There's even a small pool. The staff were friendly and comfortable. Very good value.

It is a pity that Fiji's oldest hotel in Levuka is poorly managed because it has so much potential. The hotel is a heritage style building and has a lovely quirky old feel to it. It is good for cheap accommodation at only $32 for a single room, but you have to expect to get what you pay for. I... More

... and nothing more or less! You will get it and be satisfied - even happy as I am. Some negative comments are not fair comparing this place to high-end ones. It's low key and the price is ok. Problems with insects are dealt with. Community rooms are charming (the commenter who didn't see them should eventually withdraw his comment:-))... More

Really kind of loved the Royal Hotel in all it's faded glory, but sadly had to flee the cottage we rented because of bedbugs. This may have just been the cottage Winnifred, and we observed the bugs in room 1 and 2. Our children were asleep by the time we found them, and we observed both adult and nymph stages... More

Old colonial hotels with their fading glory can be fascinating and atmospheric -- the Byron in Aleppo, the Victoria in Cairo (reviewed some years ago), Galle Face in Colombo and the Imperatrice in Martinique, to name a few. The Royal tries to lay claim to this legacy but completely misses the point. In all the above hotels the shortcomings of... More
