I arrived at Nikita's in the late afternoon from Irkutsk. I had spent two days at Listvyanka and seen the island on a map and decided to travel there. Olkhon Island and Lake Baikal in general is one of the most beautiful places on the earth in my opinion. After checking in, I was shone to my room which was... More

We had a great time on Olhkon, thanks in large part to the helpful and friendly staff at Nikita's. The homestead is quirky, with lots of things to look at just on the property! There are lovely wooden buildings and new additions being made. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with great beds and warm bedding. The 3 of... More

We stayed there for zwo nights. We had a New private room with a private bathroom. It was very clean. The beds were big. The staff speak good english and a little german. I wasn't a friend of the meals, but they are nature based and you have to live with it, because there is only nature everywhere. That's why... More

If you're thinking of going to Olkhon, stop. Just do it. It is stunningly beautiful, utterly still and peaceful, and there are incredible walks you can take - if you're lucky, as we were, you'll get a couple of street dogs walking with you, keeping you company. They're friendly, not scary, and they'll show you the way. Nikitas itself is... More

We were really happy here. It was slightly different to what we expected - too large to be a "proper" homestay and their alcohol policy has changed so there's a "French" bistro on site which serves beer. There was a large French presence when we were there - I think the tour guide and a few other people who work... More

Having read the kind of mixed reviews of this place and the fact that it's a big business at this stage, I had actually decided to stay somewhere else. However that place had no rooms available so we decided to just let the bus from Irkutsk drop us off at Nikita's. We had no pre-reservation but no problem getting a... More

Had originally tried booking another B&B in the area however this fell through so we arrived with no reservation. Luckily we were accommodated for three nights. When first arriving it reminded me a little of Christiania in Denmark or a village at the end of the world. It is quite charming, all log cabins and all different designs and styles.... More

Nikita's is a logical choice when visiting Olkhon Island. Most of the staff speak English, they arrange tours and you get fed but don't go with high expectations. The staff weren't particularly friendly but they did help when needed and were reasonably efficient. They can arrange transport to and from Irkutsk at a price and crammed into a very basic... More

Probably the best spot to start a journey to discover Olkhon. But as the center of tourism activity of the island, it anything but close to a typical Siberian experience. Though you will find plenty of travellers and a lot of information. The included food (even breakfast) is good and generous. Staff altogether probably speak 40 languages. 4/5 because of... More

An amazing complex of handmade log cabins, situated in a great spot in the village of Khuzir (think the Wild West mixed with a bit of Scandinavia, plus a sprinkling of Deliverance). With its own restaurant, bar and sauna(?!) all constructed and run by volunteers from Irkutsk and beyond, keen to learn new languages from foreign tourists. Room was great,... More
