Like millions of other Indians who made plans to 'utilize' the excellent 3 day long holiday during the I-day celebration this year, we too packed our bags & decided to explore a different side of our travel aspirations this time! We were a group of 3 families and contrary to hundreds of our earlier trips, within & outside the country, this time... More

When you hear Rajbari, grandeur comes to mind. Looking from that point of view I will classify Itachuna Rajbari as a Jamidarbari. The place is quite big and suitably old but at the same time reasonably maintained. From Kolkata it took us nearly two and half hours to reach there, probably because it was already late in the day when... More

We were a group of friends who wanted a different experience for our kids and this place turned out to be that and more! The suite and rooms on the first floor were comfy but not like in 5 stars or even 3 stars but they had character. One bed in one of the rooms was large enough to accommodate... More

The 'Rajbari' is a sprawling property, old architecture, passages and staircases suddenly discovered, locked rooms with musty smell, archways.....something new to be discovered at every bend. Me and my friend and our moms - had an amazing time for 3 days at the Rajbari. We found the basic amenities in place, like modern bathrooms and toilets, and clean rooms. Rooms... More

This is not a hotel in true sense. It is more like a home stay. Actually it is a "Zamindar Bari". Part of it is renovated and is let out on rent. The rooms are the old ones with modern amenities in them. Even the furniture in the rooms are from the old days. The staff may not be trained... More

This is a badly executed ambitious project with poor hospitality. Room was damp and had an awful smell. Bad bathroom with no geyser. Overpriced food. The service staff don't agree to do anything apart from cooking and carrying your bags. No reception helpline. In the middle of nowhere - so you need a large group of friends to while away.... More

Located in Pandua (nearest station Khanyan), this place is a palace converted into a homestay. The outer facade has been restored with a fresh coat of paint. However the inside of this magnificent structure craves for attention. Ground floor rooms are just okay but avoid the one with the on the extreme left. It might be bigger in size but... More

It was a very different and satisfying experience at this place. Just about a 100 Km drive from Kolkata, we were mesmerized by the grandeur and vastness of this palatial building. The owners have done a marvelous job in preserving most of the history associated with this building complex. To add to that, they have created a very decent infrastructure... More

We visited the Itachuna Rajbari in December on 21st and 22nd with family. This palace was built by the Bargees (Maratha invaders who settled in Bengal) and has been built on a grand scale and is supposed to be 260 years old. One can get glimpses of the archaeological and social structure of the time by looking at the building... More

This place needs some serious hospitality training. The rajbari is frozen in time, the heritage rooms are clean and lovely. They have old colonial furniture and are tastefully done up. The food is great, nothing fancy. Light and tasty like home cooked Bengali food should be. The staff in the office are proffessional and mild mannered. However the impolite behaviour... More
