Cheap for kolkata. The staff aren't particularly helpful but I didn't feel offended by them either. The building is huge and looks like it should be in a film. The rooms we stayed in had high ceilings and powerful fans. It is run down and dirty, but I've stayed in worse.

Unfriendly, unapologetically money hungry staff! Not even pretend politeness. Non responsive when you say hello even! Rooms were rotten and enduring very very loud street noise. Stay was made absolutely unpleasant by hotel staff. Many other lovely hotels on Sudder, I would not want such horrible people profitting from me ever again!

Arriving at night to Kolkata Maria was the first guesthouse I found. The location is central Sudder St and they offer off street parking. The Rooms are squalid, dumpy and dank but the high ceilings and fan make it at least barible. I've stayed in worse and It's cheap so I decided I would stay for the length of my... More

Cheap for Kolkata but Terrible. Staff unfriendly and all they wanted from you was your money paid up front. Room and beds were sordid the only saving grace being a high ceiling and good fan. The place is falling apart but with some love, care and money COULD be very much improved. The building in its prime would have been... More

If you need a cheap place to stay then it will do but the other reviews are correct.. it really hasn't been cleaned for a long time.. the beds were thick with dirt when we got there... after asking they gave us some ripped stained sheets to replace them... hopefully if you stay there you have a sleeping bag. After... More

I paid 700 rupees for one room with my friend. It was the dirtiest place I have ever been for such a price! And the worst for me has been the bad way staff is welcoming clients. Not even a smile, they take travelers as cattle and check their passeports with the police. When we decided to change the hotel,... More

Hotel Maria, was really a good choice, to meet a lot of travelers. Good location, 5 minutes from the underground. Close to a lot of restaurant, travel agency and markets, where you can buy everything you need. Best price in town. The cleanliness is not really good (Indians standard), but the atmosphere is good. Amazing top roof, faraway from the... More

Many long term residents who often volunteer e.g. at Mother Teresa’s place. Room prices range from Dorm Rs 100, shared bath Rs250 to double room with hot shower Rs 450. I... More

Very basic living - a smile is a luxury not afforded by this place. But dorm rooms are cheap at r100 per night paid each morning. Rooms were nice but water for a shower was scarce in the mornings and the dorm beds had a few bed bugs so maybe ask the people who are in the dorm already about... More
