I have to admit that my first impression was not the best. The room was quite small, bathroom a bit dirty, doors let every sound through. But this is all forgotten after drinking a chai in the morning with the owner and finding amazing people who want to show you around and make you feel happy. Don't forget to have... More

We had a nice time at hotel galaxy. Before we stayed several nights in a > Rs 2000,- hotel wich was actually worst then galaxy! So totally worth the Rs 800! Only downside where the sometimes noisy longstay volunteers at they entrance/common room who where audible in our room.

This place is always busy and it's easy to see why it is. It's seems a bit run down, and could do with a refurb or some paint.. But maybe that's part of its charm? Harry is lovely, and so helpful and accommodating, he also takes people to a yoga class in the mornings that he goes to. There is... More

If you would take a tour and see as many budget hotels in suroundings of Sudder st. as you can, finally you' get scared. Galaxi seems to be the only decent option in the area. Rooms are of different sizes and quality, caracteristics reflected in priceof a certain room. We had one on the first foloor for 800 rupies(one with... More

On our 6 week trip to India this was the last place we stayed at and it was surprisingly one of the nicest budget hotels we stayed in. The room was modern and well lit. The bathroom was spacious, clean, modern and had hot water. The staff were quite kind and always helpful. Also the corner near the main street... More

I bumped into some people who recommended Galaxy and advised me to make a booking. I'm so glad I did. I called in advance and was asked to email my arrival details. This place gets booked up far in advance as its one of the few really good budget options in the area, it is so much better than anywhere... More

3 out of 5 is an average rating that I arrived at by giving 2/5 to Room 2 in which we stayed, but 4/5 for the staff, location and atmosphere. Our room was quite a large double with fans and it's own bathroom. The room is a bit rundown (peeling paint etc) but it's clean and spacious with a hot... More

Hotel has a very good Location with clean rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. At night it's quiet, which is a rare thing in India. Wifi did work but was Kind of temperamentful and it was not possible during my stay (3 nights) to skype with my Family. Place is full with volunteers so maybe it's better to book... More

A very nice place to stay when visiting Kolkata. It has the advantage of being located in the centre of Kolkata, 5 minutes walking from the Indian Museum. I reached Birla Planetarium (near St. Paul's) by foot in 30 minutes starting from this hotel, and passing Maidan Park. In 10 minutes one can reach Park Street by foot. The nearby... More

Stayed here for 4 days. The first room was falling to bits with paint coming off the walls, mould everywhere, cold water in the bathroom and it was noisy. I was going to give this place 1 star.... But then we switched to a newly refurbished room with a comfortable bed, hot water, fresh paint, modern aircon, etc... It was... More
