Step back in time to the days of the Raj: Tea and cakes served by a log fire on arrival, served by a waitress with a starched white apron; the cosy rooms, in what feels like a sprawling home-counties house, with coal fires and hot water bottles provided (and you'll want them at that altitude!); wonderful views from the belvedere;... Great hotel. Had two wonderful nights stay with the group I was with. The bedrooms are so comfortable, very warm and the open fire places with a glowing fire just finishes it off, and I better not forget to mention the hot water bottles Food is excellent with table service and the waiters wear traditional costume. Five courses for both lunch... More

This is a remnant of the British RAJ. Originally a housing project for Englishmen who came to work in the tea plantations, the conversion is a hotel crammed with history and charm. The staff was super attentive. Impossible to walk by anyone without a greeting or offer to help. Food was abundant with both European and Indian served with each... More

The hotel is right at the top of the hill with great landscape and views away from the sounds and bustle of the main Darjiling. Staff are very cooperative. The food was exceptionally good and five course breakfast, lunch dinner is tad too heavy for generally small eaters of today. Try ala-carte instead. A very quiet place for relaxation.

Stayed for three nights on a recent trip. Centrally located with fantastic views (when no mist!). The TV didn't work and they were unable to fix it. The bar service was excellent, and we particularly enjoyed the Diwali celebrations - great to see the management and staff enjoying themselves without any Health and Safety constraints. The meals were exceptional, though... More

Had a great two days and stayed in the original building (Knebworth Room), no TV but really enjoyed the feel of staying in this building. There is a similar room, across the hall, probably less noise, the Alexandra David-Nee Room. Staff was great and the food was good. Very relaxing. A historical building with a lot of the old pictures.... More

We loved this place. Rooms are large and plush, if very old fashioned, in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Meals are served in national dress, with white gloves. Each meal has both an English and Indian course. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is right at the top of the hill, offering great views, and some distance... More

We stayed here for the first three nights of our India/Bhutan trip and were taken aback how this hotel has managed to stay so frozen in time - the rooms, the dining and the service were all of years gone past. The hotel is fabulously located - high above the noise of Darjeeling. We could not even hear the dogs... More

The good 1. Afternoon tea – amazing experience for two hours where you can sit outside and enjoy amazing tea, scones, sandwiches, cookies and even hot cross buns 2. Some of the staff such as Anoop, Bishal, the bartender, the house keeping staff who come to the rooms are the only ones who have a smile on their faces. Other... More

A heritage hotel, a colonial masterpiece , an epitome of hospitality....whatever we call this wonderful hotel would be appropriate. I stayed here with , my family in 2 colonial suites. First the rooms have lovely names....Rani Raikut, Dupuis, Miss Pierce, Little Peppers and so on. The old world feel is really cherishable with high ceilings, fireplaces etc and a modern... More
