Stayed for 3 nights in February with my mother and it was great! I called the hotel so many times to make sure about the booking and other details and the staff mr.Tenzin was very helpful and was never annoyed with my calls When I arrived I was even more impressed with the place the location is great it's clean... Though the Windamere is quite expensive do not expect it to be luxurious as a Maharaja's Palace. The room fee includes 4 meals a day, including afternoon tea of scones and Madiera cake, which makes it more reasonable. The Windamere is like being in a time warp, taking you back to the days before Indian independence, when bachelor tea planters... More

After a day of hiking around, visiting tea plantations, the toy train, and local shops, we were cold and tired. We made our way to the Windamere Hotel for their High Tea around 4:30 pm. As we arrived, another hiker was joining us for the same experience. The cost was 600 Rupees a person. We were escorted to a sitting... More

A knock on our door on Christmas morning at the Windamere in Darjeeling. Delivery of tea in a cozy and stockings with presents accompanied by the staff singing carols at our doorstep. That night a great meal capped off by service of Christmas pudding piped into the dining room by bagpipes. Countless other pleasantries and interesting guests from all over... More

This is an update from previous review. I spent Xmas and New Year at this hotel. The service, warmth and ambience is great.Staff very attentive and smiling. The majority of rooms and lounges all have coal fires which adds to the atmosphere and warmth of the buildings.During the festive season there is entertainment in the lounge each evening prior to dinner.... This hotel was developed for British tea planters and their guests and maintains its traditions including accommodations in two-story, small buildings; three dining room meals and high tea are included in the rate. The hotel provided box breakfasts or lunches if one were leaving early or would be away at midday. Staff are usually accommodating. The well kept grounds are... More

If Darjeeling is on your list of places to visit (which it absolutely should be because it's beautiful and quite unlike the rest of India), and you appreciate tradition, you should stay at the Windamere. Staying at the Windamere feels as if you've entered a place untouched by the harshness of modernity - with roaring fireplaces, black and white photographs... More

In the evening a coal fire is lit in your room, a hot water bottle put in the bed. Tea and tiny triangular sandwiches are served in the afternoon, lunch and dinner of an English dish and an Indian dish is announced with a gong and the whole place is presided over in suitably imperial fashion by a lady originally...
