And another heritage hotel which has a lot of history associated with it. (See their website) The hotel comprises several separate buildings and a couple of bungalows. All rooms are named. So the check in was fast as I arrived with a couple of others ahead of the main group. Very personal. I had a room in one of the... More

The hotel is located on top of a hill, we had booked a cottage, an outhouse. the place is so well done, you feel like you're in the Elizabethan era. the fire place gives it an authentic touch. the food and service is great very prompt. would love to visit again.

After making the journey up from the airport we were delighted to reach the hotel. It is very idealic and accommodating. Such a lovely welcoming and comfortable place to enjoy! Everyone from the managing director (Elizabeth Clarke) to the staff building the fires in your room- were absolutely lovely and I felt safe and at home. The food was exquisite... More

Stayed here for 3 nights on recommendation - room was nice, comfy bed, big bathroom and lovely when the fire was lit in the evening for a few hours, also hot water bottles!! Loved the witty notices around the place. What we enjoyed most was meeting the other guests from 7pm down in the bar - a complete mix of... More

My room was quaint, the shower over the roll-top bath gave me a few nervous moments. I will admit, I didn't like the fire in my room because fuel was black coal, which only lasts 4 hours and room just smells of coal! Also, my room (#8) 2nd floor, Observatory House is exposed to the noise and bright lights of... More

At first you may be put off by the price of the place, but let me tell you it is worth every penny spent. This place cuts no corner when it comes to hospitality, quality of service and cuisine. I was here for 3 nights with my husband and two kids and felt very welcome by all the staff, including... More

The Windamere experience just can't be described in words. From the decor to the food to the attire of the service staff in the dining room, everything has that distinct stamp of vintage elegance. It's those small details that make the experience even more delightful, like the man who'd drop by every evening to tend to the coal fireplace in... More

Went here for afternoon tea with a group of 6 friends. Had a lovely time. Very english - felt a little like Downtown in India on a v small scale. A really characterful place. Well worth visiting if you have an afternoon to space but sadly you can't look around the hotel you are put in a colonial room away... More

A step back in time - great location - superb food graciously served in a delightful dining room - coal fires at night in a charming bedroom. A touch of how India was in times past. Quirky and a peaceful place to relax after a busy day sightseeing and shopping in the crowded bazaars.

We've just spent 6 days at the Windamere over Christmas. Its selling point is colonial/country house, so guests as strongly encouraged to join in the activities, to mingle over afternoon tea, and to attend the very good evening performances (this year by American jazz singer Laura Brunner and pianist Paul O'Dey). It's not for everyone - basically older people like... More
